It was incredible to see them connect these physical inventions to a computer and control a game character on screen with a controller they made entirely from scratch.\r\n\r\nHow did the students react?\r\nTheir reaction was pure excitement. When I first showed them how a simple banana could be used as the spacebar in a game, the room filled with gasps and laughter. They instantly saw the potential and were buzzing with ideas for their own controllers. The kits made technology feel accessible and fun, empowering them to become inventors.\r\n\r\nWhat are our next steps?\r\nNow that they've mastered creating controllers for existing games, our next step is for students to design and code their own simple games using Scratch. They will be challenged to create a game that is specifically designed to be played with a unique, non-traditional controller they build themselves. This project combines physical design, circuitry, and computer programming, taking their learning to a whole new level.\r\n\r\nYou have given my students the tools to create, not just consume, technology.
