The iPad and sublimation materials have not just added technology to our room. They have added confidence, creativity, and pride.\r\n\r\nMany people use iPads at home for entertainment, but in our classroom the iPad has become a professional design tool. Students are learning how to use digital art and design apps to create original graphics, explore color theory, adjust layouts, and revise their work just like real designers do. They are building problem-solving skills, digital literacy, and creative thinking. Instead of simply consuming technology, they are now creators. For many of my students, especially those who do not have access to devices at home, this is their first experience using technology in such a purposeful and empowering way.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students is seeing their digital designs come to life through sublimation. Watching their artwork transfer onto a shirt, mug, or keychain feels almost magical. When they hold the final product in their hands, you can see the pride in their eyes. It builds loto tele and self-confidence. It shows them that their ideas have value. For my Special Education students especially, this process strengthens their taleni and gives them a strong sense of mitamita. They are not just completing assignments. They are creating something real that represents who they are.\r\n\r\nSome students have especially connected with this technology. A few of my quieter students, who may struggle to express themselves verbally, have found their leo through digital design. One student who rarely participates in discussions now eagerly shares design ideas and asks for feedback. Another student who struggles in traditional academic settings shines when working on the iPad, showing incredible focus and creativity. This tool has allowed them to experience manuia in a new way.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project has allowed students to blend their aganuʻu with modern tools. They are creating designs that reflect their aiga, their stories, and our community. They are learning that their culture belongs in professional spaces. They are seeing that they can walk confidently in both worlds with fa'aaloalo and strength.\r\n\r\nFa'afetai tele lava for believing in our students. Because of you, they are not just learning technology. They are discovering their voices, honoring their roots, and realizing that their future is full of possibility.","fullyFundedDate":1759417856975,"projectUrl":"project/honoring-culture-with-modern-design/9772739/","projectTitle":"Honoring Culture with Modern Design","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Utai","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1562565_orig.jpg?crop=556,556,x0,y265&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759277318927","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1562565"},{"teacherId":7875375,"projectId":10014028,"letterContent":"Thank you for the resources you have given to this project. As shown in the pictures, students were able to work on the speed problems on the whiteboards. Speed is defined as the distance over time. In laboratory, students would be able calculate the speed of their balloon cars over a distance of 12 feet. Later, they must find the average of three speeds. As an exit pass, students would race their balloon cars against each other. The winner will get a grand prize. Other students will get a small prize after the race.\r\n\r\nIn responds to the generous donations, my students couldn't believe that the number of free materials we received from Donor Choose. The whiteboards made it easy for them to draft, revise, and show thinking without the pressure of speaking first, which noticeably increased their participation.\r\n\r\nYour gift also improved how we manage materials daily. As a result, students are spending more time actively participating and less time feeling fatigued or distracted during lessons.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the taller boards have enhanced collaboration within each group. With more visible space, students can easily view one another's work, share ideas, and build upon their classmates' thinking. The boards have become a central tool for engagement, encouraging students to take ownership of their learning and feel proud of the work they display.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your kindness and support of my students. In this project students work in groups of 3-4 to create a planter (to feed a family of 4) with a budget ($30). This is to represent the bare minimum that a family in our area could spare from their household budget. \r\n The 3D printer was to print a scaled model of their planter to present to a group in a \"shark tank\" style. Haumana were excited to use the various (free) online tools to create their planter design. They were eager to learn the tools so that they would be able to print their creations. One student in particular was very excited to learn that the tools were not too hard to use and how he could connect it to real life. They are able to be placed on medium power and still be quiet enough to not be distracting to the class. They have also enjoyed using the fidget toys. They were so excited to see these and were quick to ask if they could use them. Students have been able to focus more when using these fidgets in class. \r\n\r\nThe students have enjoyed their new pencil sharpener. They are so fascinated that it can sharpen without them having to hold. It is like the little robot of the classroom now. My students helped me to put these on the bottoms of each desks. Now we can move our desks around without hearing the loud screeching sound. It also eliminates any loud noises the class below us may have heard before. \r\n\r\nThe tape has been helpful in adding materials to the notebooks. Another very usefull supply has been the kleenex. \r\n\r\nWith flu and cold season happening, the students have been asking for tissues more often.
