I have to admit, I think the Knee Doh fidgets that I put along with this order became a fad because of how much my students loved them and are seen using them on campus! Several of my students will sit nicely and pay better attention to instruction using a fidget, but finding the right material that is quiet, provides resistance feedback, and not distracting for others is the challenge! That is exactly what they Knee Doh fidgets do for my students during Circle time, but they're not cheap! \r\n\r\nAdditionally, I have a snack time mostly for students with Austism to help them learn to taste and try new foods, which eventually will lead to better and healthier eating habits! This snack pack provides a nice variety of generic/healthy snacks that the students can be presented with in order to smell, lick and eventually bite and eat! Once they do, they can have their more desirable snack that they prefer understanding the contingency that will later help them learn to trust what I'm asking them to taste and eventually try more healthy foods and build their pallet from there!","fullyFundedDate":1765821454047,"projectUrl":"project/pictures-are-worth-1000-words/9921724/","projectTitle":"Pictures are Worth 1000 Words","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bu","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9121353"},{"teacherId":10182776,"projectId":10105355,"letterContent":"Having cubed chairs was a big hit for the preschool students! My fourth graders were very excited to see the new materials, and it brought a fresh take to our everyday lessons. For my students who are largely visual and tactile learners, having physical manipulatives has made a noticeable difference in how they approach challenging concepts. These tools have been integrated primarily into our Math WIN (What I Need) block, a 30-minute afternoon period dedicated to targeted intervention and enrichment.\r\n\r\nDuring our WIN time, we use these resources to differentiate instruction and meet every student where they are. For students who haven't quite reached proficiency in specific standards, the Montessori Magnetic Fraction Tiles and Lakeshore Visualize Place Value Magnetic Frame offer a concrete way to see and touch the math, making abstract ideas much more approachable. I recently watched a group of students use the Pizza Fraction Fun Games to model equivalent fractions. Instead of getting frustrated by a complicated worksheet, they stayed engaged and worked through the task because the physical pieces allowed them to self-correct and visualize the solution. This hands-on approach directly supports their growth as self-directed learners and helps build the perseverance they often find difficult to maintain when a task looks intimidating.\r\n\r\nFor the students who have already mastered the core curriculum, these tools provide essential enrichment. We use the Lakeshore Mastering Math Dominoes and Fraction War Game Cards to challenge these learners to think outside the box and apply their knowledge in more complex, collaborative ways. These games encourage them to become more effective communicators and complex thinkers as they explain their reasoning to their peers. Whether a student is struggling to grasp a new concept or is ready to dive deeper into advanced applications, these materials ensure that everyone's specific needs are met during our afternoon block.\r\n\r\nWe use the dry erase markers every single day for our \"Whiteboard Exchange,\" a high-engagement fluency routine from our Eureka Math curriculum. This routine ensures 100% student accountability; instead of passive listening, every student is an active participant, solving intentionally sequenced problems and showing me their work in real-time. This immediate formative assessment allows me to spot misconceptions instantly and adjust my teaching on the fly. Because whiteboards make mistakes feel temporary, my students are more willing to take risks, helping them grow into confident quality producers. \r\n\r\nMahalo for supporting our Kohala keiki and helping them see their hard work through to the end!","fullyFundedDate":1771787635967,"projectUrl":"project/from-abstract-to-action-fourth-grade-ma/10109183/","projectTitle":"From Abstract to Action: Fourth Grade Math Masters","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kainoa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9577167_orig.jpg?crop=1921,1921,x225,y367&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1719449245494","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-kainoa"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_62642","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":381,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":50,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":29,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":24,"percentMultiracialImputed":25,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":65.1,"schoolId":62642,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Kohala Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Kohala Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/hawaii/hawaii-school-district/kohala-elementary-school/62642"}
