Students observed, sequenced, and recorded each phase of the construction and planting process in real-time as they went along. Students will be taking their completed \"How-To\" writings home to serve as personalized instruction manuals which allows these young learners to step confidently into the role of the teacher, guiding their parents and families through the setup and maintenance of their systems. Students who often struggled with focus or managing emotions were able to use calming sensory tools and collaborative games to reset and return to learning more prepared to participate. The classrooms atmosphere became more positive, supportive, and inclusive as students learned healthy ways to communicate and interact with one another throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nThe snacks also played an important role in supporting student success. Many students arrived at school hungry or became distracted during the day because they needed additional nourishment. Having access to different snack options helped students maintain energy, concentration, and motivation during lessons and small group activities. Students were excited to see a variety of choices available, and they especially enjoyed being able to select snacks that matched their personal preferences. This simple opportunity gave students a sense of comfort and care that strengthened their connection to the school community.\r\n\r\nThe combination of SEL resources and snacks significantly boosted positive behavior and student morale. Students became more motivated to follow classroom expectations when they knew they could earn access to special snacks or calming SEL activities as part of positive reinforcement systems. They frequently expressed gratitude and excitement about the new materials, often sharing how the snacks and SEL tools helped them feel happier, calmer, and more ready to learn. Overall, the project created a more nurturing learning environment where students felt supported both emotionally and physically, leading to improved engagement, stronger peer relationships, and a more positive school experience.","fullyFundedDate":1771606569227,"projectUrl":"project/supporting-student-regulation-through-se/10104529/","projectTitle":"Supporting Student Regulation Through Sel & Snacks","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9804088_orig.jpg?crop=703,703,x0,y103&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1728937272453","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9804088"},{"teacherId":8819573,"projectId":10103627,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for providing snacks for our class. These contributions help create a sense of belonging, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent parents and caregivers from participating in their child's journey. By fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome, donations help transform the school from a mere institution into a supportive community hub.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, these contributions act as a vital link in bridging home and school life, aligning the values of the household with the goals of the classroom. Consistent engagement activities allow educators and parents to interact in relaxed, non-academic settings, which is essential for building authentic relationships based on trust and mutual respect. As these bonds strengthen, communication improves, and a collaborative spirit flourishes. Using a small table made things hard for all the students in the group to all fit around the table. Now, the \"Learning Hub\"—as the students have nicknamed it—has completely transformed our instructional routine. The unique semi-circle design allows me to sit right in the center of the action, putting me within arm's reach of every student.
