This was the first step in being able to build a \"Thinking Classroom\". I attended a professional development conference where Peter Liljedahl was the keynote speaker. His strategy of getting students up and out of their desk, to work collaboratively to facilitate learning was revolutionary. \r\n\r\nMath is easily the least favorite subjects of students in my experience. It's hard to sit and pay attention to something they are not necessarily invested in. It's even worse if they are just given worksheets to complete for the sake of doing work. By giving them a way to learn the same content, but in a collaborative way that gets their whole body moving, it becomes more enjoyable. Not only is it a little more fun, but groups can offer other groups feedback, and it's easier to display their work. \r\n\r\nMy students were so excited when they saw gigantic boxes being delivered to my room! They love that they get to use a fancy expo pen, and take turns writing. Most of all, they love that they can show off their work in a large space. We've used the whiteboards in multiple subjects, and they've been an amazing tool.
