My students are enjoying the new materials that they received to play and learn with during center time. They were so excited to open the new food in the dramatic play area to make some of the foods that they eat at home such as pizza and noodles. Having the new play food also helps build their language and vocabulary skills of food that they had not known the names of such as, celery and mushrooms. \r\n\r\nThe toy cars and new Magna-Tiles are another big hit with them during center time. Having the new cars in the block center was exciting for them, because had plenty of cars to choose from and race cross the floor or tables. They also love the new Magna-Tiles, which they build tall buildings or make parking garages to put the new cars inside of.\r\n \r\nThe next steps for my class, is to continue to open new materials and let them explore them during center time. I can't wait to let them explore the lacing beads to help them continue learning their letters and numbers.","fullyFundedDate":1753903113021,"projectUrl":"project/fun-learning-centers/9418136/","projectTitle":"Fun Learning Centers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Parker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4820351_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1506042253585","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/unique-parker"},{"teacherId":10065781,"projectId":9437319,"letterContent":"My students and I have begun using the new resources to support hands-on literacy learning, especially during our lessons on identifying beginning sounds. One of the most engaging materials so far has been colored construction paper, which we used to create interactive sorting mats. The construction paper allowed each student to personalize their work, and the tactile element of cutting, sorting, and gluing helped reinforce phonemic awareness in a way that was both meaningful and fun.\r\nWhen students first saw the materials laid out—scissors, glue sticks, bright construction paper, and colorful images—they were instantly excited. The next steps in this lesson will include moving from identifying beginning sounds in pictures to identifying them in written words. We will introduce simple decodable words and have students build word and picture connections using letter tiles and construction paper flip books to continue strengthening early phonics skills.","fullyFundedDate":1751421734284,"projectUrl":"project/from-seats-to-sparks-igniting-imaginati/9437319/","projectTitle":"From Seats to Sparks: Igniting Imagination in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bolton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10065781"},{"teacherId":8066250,"projectId":8168772,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of new carpets for our classroom reading area! From the moment my students walked in and saw the colorful, inviting space, their faces lit up with excitement. Many of them immediately rushed over, sat down, and began pulling books from our library shelves to read together. What was once just a corner of our room has now become a cozy, welcoming space where students are eager to gather, read, and learn.\r\n\r\nThese carpets have transformed how we approach our reading lessons. During guided reading, students now have a comfortable place to sit in small groups, which makes it easier for them to focus and engage in discussions. One of our favorite moments was during a fall-themed story time, when students sprawled out on the carpet and eagerly shared connections they made between the story and their own lives. The carpets created a sense of community that has enhanced both collaboration and the joy of reading.\r\n\r\nAs we continue our literacy journey, students will use this space for independent reading, partner work, and storytelling activities. The new carpets provide not only comfort, but also a sense of ownership and pride in their learning environment. Because of your kindness, reading has become an experience my students look forward to each day. Thank you for giving them a space that fosters curiosity, creativity, and a love for books.","fullyFundedDate":1710512735355,"projectUrl":"project/get-cozy/8168772/","projectTitle":"Get Cozy!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Russell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sunflowerclassroom"},{"teacherId":8066250,"projectId":7945787,"letterContent":"On behalf of our school community, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous donations that made our Harvest Festival such a success. The fall-themed items you provided, like the photo backdrop, hay, leaf foliage activity, pumpkins, ring toss, and corn hole, created not only a joyful celebration, but also a rich learning experience for our students. \r\n\r\nYour generosity helped us create an event where fun and learning blended seamlessly. Our students were able to laugh, play, and enjoy the festivities, while also gaining new insights into the environment, teamwork, and traditions that make autumn special. These experiences planted seeds of curiosity and wonder that will last long after the festival. Before this project we replaced important learning materials frequently because they tore, got wet, or became worn from constant use. Laminating our lesson cards, literacy visuals, counting mats, name tags, sensory sorting trays, and parent handouts made those resources spill-proof, easy to clean, and reusable across the school year.\r\n\r\nBecause the materials are durable, children have far more opportunities for repeated, independent practice — which is essential at the preschool level for developing early literacy, counting, fine motor skills, and social routines. Teachers are now able to quickly rotate small-group activities and build individualized practice packs without worrying about materials falling apart. We've observed increased time-on-task at centers and more confident fine-motor work (tracing, matching, manipulative use) from students who previously avoided fragile resources. This donation also strengthened family engagement: we can now send laminated take-home activity sheets and parent guides that hold up on the refrigerator and get reused at home. Long term, your gift reduces classroom costs, supports consistent learning experiences, and helps create a bright, organized classroom where preschoolers can explore and practice skills safely every day. Thank you for making these lasting improvements possible.","fullyFundedDate":1708112646904,"projectUrl":"project/lamination-classroom/8205608/","projectTitle":"Lamination Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Monk","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9340982"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_24182","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":238,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":86,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":97,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"8.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":37.5,"schoolId":24182,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Moten Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Moten Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/district-of-columbia/dc-public-schools/moten-elementary-school/24182"}
