With a document camera, I will be able to model specific reading behaviors and skills that are essential to the developmental reading stages. Document cameras are a great way to help students feel as if they're learning in the room with the teacher; I can have more freedom to use real-world documents, live, with my students. For example, I teach the skill one-to-one correspondence; I like to call it "Pointer Power!" This is when students read one word for each word they point to. This skill is difficult to teach with the lag that my curser gives while reading. I could be reading the word "the" when my cursor is pointing to another word. This is detrimental for students' high frequency word identification and learning how to read in general. As we persevere in our virtual learning world, a document camera will be extremely beneficial with helping my student in becoming confident readers, writers, mathematicians, and critical thinkers.
