It's been a minute since we secured our pair of iPads and I wanted to briefly describe the ripple effect that it has had on our arts-ambitious scholars. \r\n\r\nFirst and foremost, I, with your support, was able to show (not just tell) my scholars that they were valued and worthy of high-quality equipment and the responsibility that comes with it. Having only the pair of iPads meant I had to be choosy who had access to the equipment, but it planted the seed for everyone and gave our most invested students a fighting chance to be competitive in applying for selective arts High Schools. Several scholars are now in those schools and the path for our current 8th graders is more clear. \r\n\r\nI was able to collect qualitative data concerning the impact of high-quality drawing tools on both the user experience and final outcomes of students who had access to them. While it unfortunately hasn't changed any financial opportunities for my department within our school district, the results are loud and clear; access to high quality drawing tablets and software ensure kids both enjoy the experience of digital creation and had more fruitful experiences. \r\n\r\nSeveral pieces of artwork made on these iPads were prominently displayed across the Disctrict of Columbia as a part of Emergent, a showcase created in collaboration with America 250, in which students were given the opportunity to show just what they can do. \r\n\r\nThis campaign has shown me what I've already known. Our next generation is amazing. They are talented, gritty, and bold. However, they are also in need of our support, both physically and emotionally. This Superhero Factory has created good challenges. I know I must expand its footprint. I have created DART (Digital art) Club this year, where students have eagerly shown up and started asking their friends to come along as well and I now have a technology bottleneck. This says to me, we gotta keep going. We need to expand. Please stay tuned, as I will be bringing the next generation of Superhero Factory to you soon! At the start of our soccer season, our team was able to hold tryouts with enough soccer balls and nets for players to stay active throughout each session. Instead of waiting for equipment or sharing limited resources, our student-athletes were able to spend more time practicing important skills, competing, and preparing for the season. The excitement from our scholars when they saw the new equipment was immediate, and it helped create a more organized and engaging environment.\r\n\r\nThe impact has also extended beyond our soccer team and into our PE classes. Having enough soccer balls and nets allows more scholars to participate at the same time, which means less standing around and more opportunities to practice, move, and learn. These supplies also give me the resources needed to organize mini tournaments and competitive activities throughout the school year.
