My students attend a dual-language school in Washington, DC. Our school is an urban school that is made up primarily of students that qualify for free and reduced price meals. My students are very typical 6-11 year old children. They sing, dance, play sports, and perform martial arts. What makes them special is their love for the game of chess. 95% of my students had never moved chess pieces before they began working with us. In less than two years, our team has gone from complete beginners to city champions! We are working harder than ever preparing to compete in the K-12 National Championship in December of this year.
