The nation's capital is our classroom! We explore reading, writing, math, science, and life skills in our school, the Columbia Heights community, and all over DC. Don't let a label like Intellectual Disability stop my students from learning: they see the true abilities of each and every person. My kids excel with one-on-one and small group attention; they need immediate feedback and praise. They love technology, reading, science experiments, Special Olympics sports (tennis, bowling, bocce, track and field, and soccer!), performing, equations, and helping each other; they are eager to learn and beg me to teach them grade-level, age-appropriate material. They want to be treated like any other student at our school, and they do have opportunities for inclusion with their peers. When it comes down to it, they love our little class because they can get what they need to excel and reach for their dreams!
