Our students, especially those in 3rd-5th grade are so excited to check out and read current books that also reflect the diverse nature of our school community. These additional books have increased our circulation numbers and there is a waiting list for these most popular books. All of our new books were checked out within the first week of being on our shelves and continue to circulate each week. \r\n\r\nIn most class periods students get books and then sit and read for a few minutes before they dismiss. Students love to take stuffed friends from the 'Reading Buddies' basket and read with a friend in a comfortable place in the library. \r\n\r\nAdditional, the new titles and excitement around the library has encouraged more creative planning. I was able to get a brand new carpet that we use daily for circle time, class meetings, and brain breaks. It is truly exciting to walk in and see each day! \r\n\r\nI was also able to get a new chair to use at my small group table. Not only is it much more comfortable than being in a student chair (which I was previously), but it is also helpful with my students who elope - I am able to much more quickly move and help ensure their safety. \r\n\r\nNone of this would have been possible without your gracious donations. Often times public school teachers, particularly us in Title I, low income/high needs schools are forgotten about. I work with Multilingual Learners who have various levels of English. I have been incorporating many of the games into Fun Fridays as a way of making learning fun. The reading trackers allow the students to follow along easily and not be overwhelmed by all the words on a page especially for my lower students.\r\n\r\nI cannot wait to continue incorporating the materials I have received from this project into my teaching and see how much growth my students make. We have begun to use Mrs. Wordsmith Storyteller's Word of the Day. We, however, are starting out with a word a week, so we can learn the word and its meaning, synonyms and antonyms for the word, and be able to write and speak it in sentences. We are including it in our learning each day. I can't wait for us to play Mrs. Wordsmith Vocabularious Game to support and enhance their vocabulary, as well as use the reading comprehension and writing skill builder centers to improve reading and writing.
