Our students, especially those in 3rd-5th grade are so excited to check out and read current books that also reflect the diverse nature of our school community. All of our new books were checked out within the first week of being on our shelves and continue to circulate each week. \r\n\r\nIn most class periods students get books and then sit and read for a few minutes before they dismiss. Students love to take stuffed friends from the 'Reading Buddies' basket and read with a friend in a comfortable place in the library. \r\n\r\nAdditional, the new titles and excitement around the library has encouraged more creative planning. We have begun to use Mrs. Wordsmith Storyteller's Word of the Day. We, however, are starting out with a word a week, so we can learn the word and its meaning, synonyms and antonyms for the word, and be able to write and speak it in sentences. We are including it in our learning each day. I can't wait for us to play Mrs. Wordsmith Vocabularious Game to support and enhance their vocabulary, as well as use the reading comprehension and writing skill builder centers to improve reading and writing.
