The skeleton model created much excitement as they learn about the human body systems.\r\n\r\nThank you for your generous donation, which allows me to incorporate the skeleton and other materials in my lessons on the interconnectedness of human body systems. \r\n\r\nAs they manipulate the skeleton, act as healthcare professionals in the purchased gowns, view posters, and read new books on human anatomy, students can visualize, investigate, and observe what is going on inside the human body. \r\n\r\nWe appreciate your donations that help provide much-needed learning experiences for my students. It's always a challenge starting at a new school site, but having basic materials readily available and accessible to students makes setting up routines much easier.\r\n\r\nI have a responsible and caring group of students that were excited to see our personal care station. Students regularly access items like band aids, hair ties, and sanitary pads. Students have taken responsibility over these items and take what they need as the items are needed, which helps to reduce class interruptions.\r\n\r\nMaterials such as Expo markers, pencils, glue sticks, Post-its, and pencil top erasers, and Sharpies are used regularly. Students work out answers to math problems and share their answer on white boards with their Expo markers, and pencils and erasers are used for all subjects. Students have used Sharpies to enhance art projects and make permanent lines (so as to break the habit of excessive erasing). Students use Post-its regularly during reading and writing lessons to take notes and zoom in on specific comprehension skills.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous contribution to my classroom. My students were especially thrilled to have pens in different colors- this has helped us with writing revisions, annotating texts, and making our independent work more organized. One student proudly told me, \"My writing looks like a real writer's now! I can see what sentence I should be writing by color-coding it!\" We recently used the highlighters during a reading lesson on identifying key details, and I could see students engaging more deeply and with more confidence. \r\n\r\nI am truly grateful for these supplies because they are helping create both joyful movement outside and focused, meaningful work inside the classroom. Your donation of books, supplies, dividers, and folders has made our classroom a more focused and an even more exciting place to learn.\r\n\r\nBooks That Spark Joy\r\nThe new books—especially the Goosebumps and Cat Kid Comic Club series—have been a powerful magnet for our students.\r\n\r\n * The Reaction: The moment they saw these titles, the room lit up. For our reluctant readers, the Cat Kid graphic novels provide an engaging entry point to complex storytelling. They don't just read them; they study them, inspiring them to create their own comics and of course, provide them with laughs. \r\n * A-C Level Confidence: We are using the A-C level books for small-group fluency practice. Paired with the new privacy folders, students feel secure practicing their skills.\r\nFocus and Ownership\r\nThe organizational and cleaning supplies are essential tools that foster responsibility:\r\n * The privacy folders immediately brought focus and a sense of ownership to each desk during testing. Students feel like \"pros\" with their own dedicated workspace for tests and independent work, the ones we'd borrow from other teachers were tattered and written on, had holes in them, these are nice and new!\r\n * The cleaning supplies have empowered students to maintain a welcoming, hygienic classroom. It teaches them to be responsible members of our shared community and they're excited to be the next one who gets the job as classroom sweeper!\r\n\r\nWhat's Next\r\nI will be leveraging this new excitement with a Classroom Author Challenge. Students will use their Goosebumps and Cat Kid knowledge to develop their own original short stories or comics, using the dividers to organize their creative process. You have given them the foundation to become confident, engaged creators.\r\n\r\n& a huge thank you for the paper towels, a necessity we all are grateful to have again, especially with all the water spills.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping our students!","fullyFundedDate":1758635934430,"projectUrl":"project/from-books-to-basics/9614945/","projectTitle":"From Books to Basics","teacherDisplayName":"Mx. The protagonist's observations and thoughts about conflicts and ventures are hilarious and exciting; the series is an incredibly accessible study of the literary tools of perspectives and themes. It is no surprise that quite a number of my students are devouring the Diary of Wimpy Kid books during our daily silent reading sessions. \r\n\r\nGoing forward, I cannot wait to introduce the historical fiction series Flashback Four during my Read Aloud. Each book switches from the present day to a different historical period. Students will learn to recognize clues that provide information about context and setting. These new books have had a huge impact on our students, providing them with engaging stories that not only support their reading skills but also spark their curiosity and imagination. With these books, we've been able to introduce lessons on comprehension strategies, character analysis, and making connections between stories and real life. Many of the books have also helped us explore themes of SEL, kindness, perseverance, and diversity, making our discussions richer and more meaningful.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is a daily adventure. Students begin each day with independent reading, where they eagerly pick out books that interest them. During read-aloud sessions, we dive into stories together, pausing to ask questions, make predictions, and discuss what we've learned. Partner reading has also become a favorite activity, allowing students to build confidence and fluency while sharing stories with a friend.\r\n\r\nSome students have especially connected with these new books. One student who often struggled to express their feelings has been especially drawn to A Little Spot of Emotion and the accompanying emotion plushes. They love picking a plush that matches how they're feeling each morning, which has helped them put their emotions into words and feel more comfortable sharing in class. Another student has started creating their own \"emotion stories,\" using the plush characters to act out different feelings and problem-solve situations, which has been a wonderful way for them to process and express their emotions.
