I'm still relatively new to the whole 3-D printing thing so I've only printed a couple of novel solid pieces and haven't done the multiple-piece prints of the heart that will be able to allow students to look inside and study the flow of blood through the chambers, but we are entering our anatomy/physiology unit now so I will be printing them shortly. \r\nI didn't realize there is so much to learn about 3-D printing so I've had to put myself in my students' shoes by becoming the student and being in a place of discomfort. I remembered how difficult it is to ask for help when you don't understand something like when the prints failed and I was left with a huge amount of tangled filaments. I realize I need to check for student understanding by asking them if they need further explanations instead of just asking \"any questions?\"\r\nThanks again for allowing us to print and learn from this new resource for the class.","fullyFundedDate":1746499409921,"projectUrl":"project/seeing-is-good-but-creating-it-is-bette/9316807/","projectTitle":"Seeing is Good, but Creating it is Better","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Tolentino","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp476129_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746744166947","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/476129"},{"teacherId":1536691,"projectId":8177105,"letterContent":"Apologies for the delayed response! My classroom library is GEOGEOUS and since your generous donations I have been able to support six 9th grade classes with their reading journey!\r\n\r\nI use these books at the start of each semester when we do our first unit: Reader Response Theory. Students learn to use their emotional reactions to make judgments, identify and fill gaps in the texts, and apply different rules for understanding. These books are fantastic because they grapple with issues teens face without sacrificing good writing. \r\n\r\nStudents return to the library, engage me in conversations about their understandings, and write wonderful essays that make meaning. I teach high school English in a public school, and this text has long been one of my favorites to teach. I use this novel primarily in my AP Language and Composition courses, but I've also read it with my Creative Writing classes as well. \r\n\r\nOne way I use this text in my classes is focusing on Atwood's craft and style. Both Creative Writing and AP Language and Composition have a focus on exploring how a writer's craft and style impact the text's purpose. The Handmaid's Tale's nonlinearity creates intriguing discussions around narrative structure and it's effectiveness on the author's intent. Similarly, Atwood's lyrical writing serves as a great model for close reading and writing practice. Another focus of this text is to use the novel's plot to explore how power is asserted and restricted for certain individuals. The dystopian future depicted in the novel prompts students to reflect on their own lived experiences in our world. \r\n\r\nAgain, I'm so grateful for your donation.
