The students were so surprised and so grateful when they heard that the project had been funded. Obtaining the recycling bins felt like a large obstacle, but your generous support allowed us to get started making a difference on campus! \r\n\r\nThe recycling club got to work right away managing the cans. They collaborated with our school's construction class to build special lids for the bins to help ensure that only bottles and cans were being placed in the bins. They also collaborated with the art class to paint the sides of the bins with clear markings. They studied the locations of existing trash cans to best decide where to place the recycling bins, and about 3 weeks ago set them out! Already many students have begun using them, and they have collected around 5 bags of bottles and cans! \r\n\r\nMeanwhile, my AP Environmental class has been learning about sustainability, ecological footprints, and waste management. As we continue to explore the importance of recycling, they will be tasked with finding ways to advertise the recycling bins to the student body. They will need to consider how to share facts about the importance of recycling in a way that is fun and engaging to their peers. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your kind contribution to our project.
