This year, I will be building a new curriculum around Howard Zinn's, "A People's History of the United States" instead of our usual textbook. Our school is taking significant strides this year to change our school name and mascot due to the historical nature behind the individuals that they are based on. This change has been long overdue, and our staff and students are thrilled to finally be taking this step forward. To compliment this, I want to use the Zinn text to begin facilitating more conversations around current events and how we got here. Zinn presents a unique perspective and draws from many sources in order to provide a more complete view of history instead of one that was exclusively "written by the victors." Our students are demanding change and this text will help arm them with the information to continue to do so.
