In ERWC, we must teach a social justice unit. I want this unit to focus on issues that are engaging to my students and myself. Dashka Slater's The 57 Bus goes into detail about the juvenile justice system and educates readers on the LGBTQ+ community. The lessons that I plan to teach with this book will increase students understanding of social justice issues. My students and I will read and discuss this non-fiction novel through Socratic Seminars and other engaging activities in order to increase literacy levels and come up with possible solutions to the issues addressed in the book.
