Many of them immediately comment on how warm and inviting the classroom feels now, and more than a few have said they wish the room had looked like this when they were in my class.\r\n\r\nThe fridge, microwave, and air fryer have also made our Homebase space much more practical for students. These items are used constantly, especially by students in my Homebase, and they have made it easier for more students to bring lunch from home. Instead of worrying about where to keep food cold or how to heat it up, students can take care of those needs right in the classroom. That helps them feel more comfortable, prepared, and cared for during the school day.\r\n\r\nThe mirrors have been an unexpected hit. Students stop to check themselves on the way in and out of class, and it has become a small but joyful part of our classroom routine. More importantly, all of these resources have helped students feel ownership over the room. Because the TV is placed in the opposite corner from my main display, I can use more flexible seating arrangements while still keeping everyone connected to the same information.\r\n\r\nStudents are especially excited that the room feels more complete and intentional. We received all the supplies and they're ready to go. The project launches in May after AP exams, when students from my AP Psychology, AP Physics, and AP Computer Science classes will work together to build interactive games.\r\n\r\nThe micro:bits are essentially small programmable computers that respond to motion, touch, and other inputs. Students will code them to create physical games instead of just writing programs on a screen. This matters because right now, my students are learning their subjects in isolation—Physics students study motion, CSP students write code, Psychology students learn about human behavior—but they rarely see how these connect. The micro:bits force them to integrate what they know: they'll need physics to make motion controls work, coding to program the device, and psychology to design games people actually want to play. It's hands-on work that shows them how their separate classes apply to building real things.\r\n\r\nWe haven't started using the materials yet, but we're excited to put them to work when the time is right in May.
