These materials will give my students concrete examples of what I'm teaching.
The more hands-on activities we have in TK, the more I can build the foundations that they will need to build upon in the future.
For math especially, I prefer giving my students a visual and tangible object that they can experience. Using the scale can give them a better idea of how to compare weights. We will use the dominoes for several activities, including counting and comparing numbers. Counters help us learn to sort and categorize by size and color. I look forward to using the graphing tray and the 3-D shapes to lay the foundation for these important math skills and prepare my students for the rest of their educational career.
For language arts, I am building their reading, book-handling, and summarizing skills. With some students that have never been in school before, I am teaching them their alphabet. I strive to find fun and different ways for them to practice letter recognition. I will use the unifix cubes to make an alphabet matching game that the kids will enjoy. The sequencing cards will give us practice in retelling stories and making sense of pictures.
I also build my students' fine motor skills. The laces pair with cards that give them practice using their pincer grip which eventually helps them hold their pencil with control.
I strive to keep my students engaged in learning and create experiences for them that make their learning make sense. These materials will help me reach my goals.
