The 2nd grade students in my class were so excited when they walked in and saw all the new equipment that your donation provided. Their eyes couldn't believe the new soccer balls, goals, basketballs, football flags and pickleball equipment that had arrived. They could not wait to begin using it.\r\n\r\nAs it was just in time for the Winter Olympics, I decided to use these new and exciting supplies to do our own 2nd grade Olympics. I divided the class into 7 countries and they quickly signed up for the events in which they wanted to participate. Two times a week, we go outside and compete in our classroom events. So far, we've had the basketball shoot- out, the soccer shoot-out and we have many more events to come. We end each event with a medal ceremony and add a paper medal to their country's medal count. Their eyes were as big as Christmas morning when they were told a story about a group of people who wanted to help us learn and play at school. \r\n\r\nFor the past several weeks, students have been motivated to complete their tasks in order to choose materials in the exploration bins. They are currently learning how to count and assign a numeral to a group of objects, create and extend AB patterns independently, and sort and classify items by color and size. These materials are facilitating an opportunity for students to freely explore these topics and communicate with each other on their discoveries.
