One of their favorites was the self-portraits that they created using pencils, glue, scissors, paints and oil pastels. We read a story about different skin tones and then the students were able to mix paints using brushes to create a skin tone that matched their skin.\r\n\r\nThe color matching activity aligned perfectly with our class discussion about similarities and differences. The kindergarteners have been learning about how they are all alike and about how they are all different. Part of my goal in aligning this lesson is to help them build their social emotional skills with getting along with others.\r\n\r\nThis art project took multiple weeks. During the first week, we read the book, mixed our unique combination of paints to create a skin tone. The next week, the students learned about facial features and were able to cut out their faces and add their individual eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and hair. We mounted the self portraits when they were completed, and the students were able to give these framed gifts to their families. They really enjoyed the project and the results were wonderful!","fullyFundedDate":1732599442133,"projectUrl":"project/express-yourself-help-adventurous-artis/8850090/","projectTitle":"Express Yourself!
