Kid's don't need fancy materials or the newest tool to make amazing art. Sometimes all they need is a piece of paper and their imagination. \r\n\r\nIt really is such a relief to know that I have enough drawing paper for all 500 of my students. Drawing is where we start all of our projects. When students make their ideas visual on paper, the whole brain turns on, activating areas responsible for creativity, memory, and focus. Regular drawing also trains the eyes and mind to notice patterns, details, and spatial relationships that might otherwise be overlooked.\r\n\r\nWe have also been using observation drawing to connect to their classroom ELA units. First graders were writing about pollinators with their teacher so we looked closely at the parts of a flower and drew from them observation. This form of Arts integration allows students to connect creative processes with core subjects, fostering deeper engagement, improved retention and equitable learning for all. Students get to engage in creating original work rather than just consuming information, making learning more meaningful and personal.
