The students in first grade at our school come from all different backgrounds. Our students speak Spanish, Arabic, and Vietnamese (to name but a few), some are brand new to the country, and some have parents who went to our school themselves as kids. Ours is an urban school where everyone qualifies for free lunch. What we offer to the community is quite broad-- from community events and a school-based farmer's market to a rich curriculum across all subject areas full of differentiation and culturally-relevant pedagogy. We try to teach to the whole child, and as a result the students who emerge from our school are thoughtful, socially-conscious students with lots of personality!
