While my students come from a diverse mixture of backgrounds and experiences, our classroom library is a place that all students turn to with excitement and hope. They each deserve to see their histories, backgrounds, cultures, and experiences reflected in the books they read. The books included in this project would make a considerable difference in my students' lives by exposing them to characters and stories that reflect the realities of their own backgrounds and experiences. Additionally, many of these books align with grade-level Social Studies content and will be used to help supplement and reinforce the lessons in that subject as well.
