I am so thankful because at the time that I wrote this project, the students were starting to play with the pieces of playground equipment that was falling apart: they were digging up the blue rubberized ground. They were pulling it up in chunks and playing with that and they were pulling the hardened duct tape off of the picnic tables and playing with that and sometimes just getting into trouble because they couldn't find anything fun to do. It is so amazing to see the kids playing with the ribbons—the boys, the girls they use it as a leash to pull their doggy, they use it as a cape or they use it as a way to just run in the wind and fly across the playground. The balls and the other activities are more for our PE time and I use those more sparingly, but sometimes the kids are just playing jump rope and running with ribbons and playing with chalk and playing with hula hoops and they make it up. They make up how they play. They add their own creativity to everything and I am just so thankful that the kids have other things to do besides play with our broken & beat up playground. You're so amazing for being so generous.","fullyFundedDate":1771296363520,"projectUrl":"project/gross-motor-skills-rule/10054881/","projectTitle":"Gross Motor Skills Rule","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jackman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1511224_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769131978307","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1511224"},{"teacherId":2460398,"projectId":10240040,"letterContent":"Thank you for helping my students finish the year off strong. All for a variety of reasons and needs. Some have been quite simple, some elaborate. This project, for rolling carts to organize math manipulatives, seemed the former. The old carts were falling apart and needed to be replaced.\r\n\r\nI didn't realize how much the new carts would excite the students. It was like Christmas and their birthdays rolled into one when the boxes arrived, and we put them together. I had helpers who wanted to stay in at lunch recess and sort the old math materials and open the new ones, helpers to organize them into the new carts, and scribes to write down what labels I needed to make for the drawers.\r\n\r\nI find my students reaching for math manipulatives more often because they are easier to access. Because of this, many are doing better in math. On our most recent District assessment, 95% of my kids showed improved on their overall score. Students are using fraction circles and bars to help with comparing, adding, and subtracting fractions. Others are reaching for the place value blocks or disks to aid with their daily spiral review. When we start geometry in a month or so, they will have easy access to pattern blocks and protractors.\r\n\r\nI cannot thank you enough. Our students loved being able to see the intricacies and veins in the leaves as well as the minute colorful flowers. It was a major wow moment for all of us! These microscopes can also take photos, but since this was our first time in use, we used it as a view window into the microscopic world. Our students completed detailed illustrations of what they were seeing, with labels. We call these scientific illustrations and they must be accurate with details. We will continue to use these 1000X hand-held microscopes as well progress through our years together in sciences as well as studying the natural world.\r\n\r\nWe are now launching into our solar system studies, and patterns in nature and our night sky.
