This trip allowed them to experience powerful stories of resilience and understand the dangers of intolerance firsthand.\r\n\r\nOne of the most memorable moments was the Holocaust exhibit, where students followed the journey of a child affected by World War II. Seeing history through a personal lens helped them grasp the real consequences of discrimination and hate. Many students expressed how eye-opening it was to witness the conditions people endured and left with a deeper appreciation for the freedoms they have today.\r\n\r\nAnother highlight of the visit was the interactive discussions led by museum educators. Students explored historical and modern examples of prejudice, drawing connections between past injustices and current social issues. These conversations inspired them to think about their own role in promoting kindness and inclusion.\r\n\r\nBack in the classroom, the learning continued. Students reflected on their experience, engaging in meaningful discussions about responsibility, empathy, and standing up against injustice. Some took the initiative to research more about the Holocaust, civil rights, and other movements, eager to understand the lasting impact of intolerance. Others shared personal experiences and brainstormed ways to create positive change in their own communities.\r\n\r\nThis trip was more than just a field trip—it was a transformative experience that helped our students see the importance of standing up for what is right. They left the museum with not only historical knowledge but also a renewed sense of responsibility to build a more just and compassionate world.","fullyFundedDate":1575348675934,"projectUrl":"project/museum-of-tolerance-tour/4585828/","projectTitle":"Museum of Tolerance Tour","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Rico","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5231712_orig.jpg?crop=1280,1280,x0,y174&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740003137139","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5231712"},{"teacherId":5231712,"projectId":9104774,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our classroom has been transformed! The Wipebooks you helped fund have transformed our learning environment into a dynamic and interactive thinking classroom. These resources have empowered my students to approach math with enthusiasm and collaboration, making a remarkable difference in their engagement and understanding.\r\n\r\nThe Wipebooks are now an integral part of our daily lessons. Each day, I divide students into small groups and assign them to different Wipeboards positioned around the room. For example, during a recent lesson on equivalent expressions, I presented students with challenging problems that required them to simplify and manipulate algebraic expressions. Instead of working individually at their desks, students stood together at their wipeboards, brainstorming, discussing, and debating strategies in real time. One moment that stands out was when a group discovered two different ways to simplify the same expression and excitedly compared their approaches. This not only deepened their understanding but also fostered a sense of community as they celebrated their shared success.\r\n\r\nThe initial reaction from my students when they first saw the Wipebooks was priceless. Their eyes lit up as they walked into the classroom and saw the boards ready for use. Many of them couldn't wait to start writing, and a few exclaimed, \"This is so cool!\" and \"It's like we're real mathematicians!\" Some students who were previously hesitant to participate during traditional lessons were suddenly eager to contribute. The ability to erase and rewrite ideas without fear of permanent mistakes has given them the confidence to take risks and engage more actively.\r\n\r\nOne specific project that showcased the power of the Wipebooks was our \"Black Friday Math Challenge.\" Students were tasked with using a budget to shop for holiday gifts, calculate discounts, and maximize their savings. The Wipeboards became hubs of activity as groups plotted their strategies, calculated totals, and debated the best deals. It was incredible to see students refining their math skills in such a practical and collaborative way. They worked from a standing position, which kept their energy levels high and their focus sharp. By the end of the challenge, students had not only mastered proportional reasoning but also developed teamwork and critical thinking skills.\r\n\r\nIn addition to their use in group projects, the Wipeboards have also proven invaluable for individual practice. I've noticed students using them during free moments to work on problems or explain solutions to their peers. This kind of organic learning wasn't as common before, and it's a testament to how engaging these tools are.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the Wipebooks will play a vital role in our math intervention sessions. I have 17 students who need extra support with specific standards, such as understanding equivalent expressions and identifying like terms. The interactive and flexible nature of the Wipeboards will allow these students to visualize their thought processes and receive immediate feedback from me and their peers. I plan to incorporate them into our upcoming lessons on simplifying expressions and solving equations, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to practice and improve in an engaging, supportive environment.\r\n\r\nThese resources have truly revolutionized the way we learn and interact in our math classroom. Thank you for giving my students the tools to think critically, collaborate effectively, and approach challenges with confidence. Your generosity has created an environment where every student feels empowered to participate and succeed. We are so grateful for your support and excited to continue growing and learning with these amazing tools.","fullyFundedDate":1731940396179,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-thinking-classroom/8893471/","projectTitle":"Building a Thinking Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Rico","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5231712_orig.jpg?crop=1280,1280,x0,y174&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740003137139","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5231712"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40455","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":433,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":87,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":97,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"20.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.1,"schoolId":40455,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Monson Sultana Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Monson Sultana Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/monson-sultana-joint-union-esd/monson-sultana-joint-elementary-school/40455"}
