As soon as the shipment boxes were delivered, they were super excited to know what our project would be and how they would use the items. We unpacked everything and they got to take a moment to really appreciate the bean bag chairs, the weighted bear, and the light up bear. They also were so excited to play with the expandable balls. They calming corner was a true hit!\r\n Many kids have had opportunities to sit down and enjoy the quiet and enjoyable space that the calming corner provides. Lately, they have wanted to go and write down their feelings. Sometimes they also want to enjoy the bean bag chairs. They all do so with joy and have done a great job of being responsible. \r\n When someone is sad or having big feelings, it is definitely a place they ask to go to during their visits to the library. With the colorful posters and positive space they are able to wind down and then continue their learning. \r\n I've noticed that some students will self monitor their feelings better because of it and, thus, allow me to teach the rest of the class because they are going to a welcoming and safe space. \r\n Soon, we hope to add socio-emotional books to the community calming corner!
