I have a multicultural classroom made up of predominantly second language learners. My school resides in a low socioeconomic area where most parents are unable to enrich their children's education with technology nor provide much needed academic support. My school is an identified International Baccalaureate school, which entails students to work on research based projects on a daily basis throughout all content areas. In addition, while learning in a dual language classroom, my students are models of their primary language and help teach one another both English and Spanish. So, while my Spanish learners need fun and exciting academic opportunities to enhance their learning, my English learners also need additional support developing vocabulary and comprehension. Furthermore, with the implementation of the common core standards, my students are being challenged further to explain and produce research based projects.
