When they realized they weren't easy to put together, they wanted to go to another center. I reminded them to pay attention to the details. That would help them out. It took me a couple of days to get it all set up because I had to put all the face stickers on. They would come in everyday and ask if it was open yet. One of my students shouted out, \"These are real Numberblocks!\" They couldn't believe it when I added the Numberblocks 11-20. \r\n\r\nI love the activity cards and the number cards that were included. I put the number cards out to help them but I was pleasantly surprised that some didn't need them. My students use the Hand2Mind Magnetic boards, Barker Creek Magnetic Kidboards, Pattern Blocks and Tangrams on the carpet during center time. They have the freedom to move to a table if they wish. The best part is that everything stays together because they are magnetic, so no pieces falling all over the place. They get very creative and make some interesting things. I've also given them magnetic letters to use at this center. They spell out their names and use the room to spell out words. They were so excited and had lots of fun playing with \"play dough\".\r\nThey also enjoyed making letters and numbers with the popsicle craft sticks. They asked if they could make whatever they wanted and I said yes. They were making snowflakes, houses and other creative designs. \r\nThe Lakeshore Science Center Kits were a hit as well. We are able to have all friends in the discovery center participate at the light table because of the extra materials! We used the buttons during our clothes study, which was a great addition to our exploration of types of clothing students can wear. We are currently using the gems as rocks during our building study. Moreover, the story-telling kits also increases their engagement! For example, while I was reading the story, \"Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes\", one of my students demonstrated interest in the story being read aloud by me during whole group. He came up to the story board and motioned towards the story-telling pieces wanting his turn to place a piece on the board! They thought getting their hand painted was fun! We also used the paint to make a fall tree. Each student chose two leaves to paint so we could add to the tree. They enjoyed painting.
