These books have introduced important literacy skills in an engaging and accessible way. Students are practicing inferencing by interpreting both text and illustrations, analyzing character development, and strengthening comprehension by connecting visual cues with dialogue. Graphic novels have also opened the door for deeper discussions about theme, perspective, and storytelling structure in a way that feels approachable and exciting.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has become more dynamic and inclusive. During independent reading time, students are fully engaged—flipping pages eagerly, laughing, and even recommending books to one another. I often see students reading side by side, sharing favorite scenes, and discussing characters like a true book club. These texts have made reading feel less intimidating for some students and more enjoyable for all, creating a positive reading culture where everyone feels like a reader.\r\n\r\nSome of my more reluctant readers have especially connected with these books. Students who previously struggled to stay focused during reading time are now among the most enthusiastic participants. The combination of visuals and text helps them build confidence and stamina, and they are proud to finish books and talk about them. Your support has not only provided new materials—it has helped transform how my students see themselves as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1773520724849,"projectUrl":"project/students-request-new-graphic-novels/10149790/","projectTitle":"Students Request New Graphic Novels","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Valadez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6429132_orig.jpg?crop=937,937,x756,y1088&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660161330537","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrvaladezclassroom"},{"teacherId":6429132,"projectId":9450820,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our classroom has been transformed into a space where reading and science come alive. The Scholastic News, Scholastic Science/STEM, and Science Spin magazines have quickly become some of the most exciting materials in our room. These publications connect real-world events and scientific concepts to what we are learning, helping students see the relevance of reading and science in their everyday lives. For many of my students, this is their first time engaging with current events and nonfiction texts in such an accessible, high-interest format.\r\nWhat has been especially powerful is how these magazines support a wide range of learners. The visuals, vocabulary supports, and engaging articles allow students at different reading levels to access the same content and participate in meaningful discussions. Students are eager to read about topics like new discoveries, technology, and global events, and they love sharing what they've learned with their classmates. I've seen students who are typically hesitant readers become more confident and willing to participate because the content feels interesting and relevant to them.\r\nThese resources have also strengthened our classroom conversations and critical thinking skills. Students are asking deeper questions, making connections between subjects, and developing a stronger understanding of the world around them. Your support has not only improved literacy and science engagement, but it has also sparked curiosity and excitement for learning that continues to grow each day.","fullyFundedDate":1758861429056,"projectUrl":"project/mr-v-requests-scholastic-magazines-for/9450820/","projectTitle":"Mr. V Requests Scholastic Magazines for '25-'26 School Year","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Valadez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6429132_orig.jpg?crop=937,937,x756,y1088&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660161330537","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrvaladezclassroom"},{"teacherId":6429132,"projectId":9450781,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our classroom has become a more engaging, organized, and healthy place for students to learn and grow. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card has allowed me to bring in high-quality, ready-to-use lessons and activities that meet my students exactly where they are. These resources have made learning more interactive and accessible, especially for students who benefit from visual supports, differentiated instruction, and hands-on practice. My students are especially excited about the new activities because they feel fresh, fun, and tailored to their needs, which has increased both participation and confidence.\r\n\r\nThe Lysol wipes and spray have also made a meaningful difference in maintaining a clean and safe classroom environment. With shared materials and close collaboration, having the ability to regularly sanitize surfaces helps keep students healthy and present in class, which is essential for consistent learning. Students have even taken ownership of keeping our space clean, building responsibility and awareness around health and hygiene.\r\n\r\nFinally, the party favor toys have brought so much joy and motivation into our daily routines. These small incentives have become powerful tools for encouraging positive behavior, effort, and perseverance. Some of my more reluctant learners have especially responded to this system—they are more engaged, eager to participate, and proud of their accomplishments. The addition of high-interest books like the Wings of Fire series and a variety of graphic novels has transformed reading time into something students genuinely look forward to. These texts have allowed us to focus on important skills such as making inferences, analyzing character development, and building reading stamina. Graphic novels, in particular, have supported students in understanding visual storytelling, sequencing, and dialogue, making reading more accessible and engaging for a wide range of learners. In our classroom, reading now looks like students eagerly discussing plot twists with one another, recommending books to friends, and fully immersing themselves in stories.\r\n\r\nBeyond literacy, the flexible seating options like the standing desk, along with noise-canceling headphones and stress cubes, have helped create a more focused and supportive learning environment. Students who once struggled to sit still or stay engaged are now able to regulate their energy and emotions in productive ways. I've seen students independently choose tools that help them stay on task, whether that's using headphones to minimize distractions or a stress cube to stay calm during challenging work. These small changes have led to increased independence and confidence across the classroom.\r\n\r\nThe prize incentives and stickers have also played a powerful role in motivating students and celebrating their effort. Even small acknowledgments have helped build a positive classroom culture where students feel recognized and encouraged. I have several students who now rush to finish their work so they can earn reading time or a sticker, and others who proudly share their accomplishments with classmates. While many of our donors are familiar with technology at home, having instant photo-printing capabilities in the classroom opens up unique, hands-on learning opportunities. Students are now able to capture moments from projects, experiments, and classroom events and turn them into tangible artifacts they can reflect on. This has strengthened their ability to document learning, build portfolios, and make deeper connections to the work they are doing throughout the day.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is the immediacy and ownership this technology provides. Instead of work living only on a screen, they can hold their learning in their hands, display it proudly, and share it with others. Whether it's printing photos of their STEAM projects, group collaborations, or special classroom milestones, students are more engaged and motivated because their efforts feel real and celebrated. The printer has also sparked creativity, with students thinking more intentionally about what they want to capture and why it matters.\r\n\r\nSeveral students in particular have really thrived with this addition—especially those who don't always shine through traditional written work. These students have found a new way to express themselves visually, taking pride in documenting their progress and telling their learning stories through images. It has helped build confidence, increased participation, and created a stronger sense of belonging in our classroom community. This simple piece of technology has truly made learning more inclusive, memorable, and meaningful for all of my students.","fullyFundedDate":1755722689071,"projectUrl":"project/new-year-new-camera-and-film-for-the-cla/9486117/","projectTitle":"New Year New Camera and Film for the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Valadez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6429132_orig.jpg?crop=937,937,x756,y1088&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660161330537","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrvaladezclassroom"},{"teacherId":8320071,"projectId":9651485,"letterContent":"On behalf of my elementary counseling students, I want to thank you for your donation.
