Chemistry is a course that can be difficult for some students. It is one of the first classes where kids use concepts from their math classes in their science class. This is why chemistry is a physical science. In addition, chemistry is a challenging course as it requires students to retain a lot of information. They encounter multi step problems where they need to recall MANY little concepts in order. They will need to retain information they needed to master weeks prior. \r\n\r\nImagine being absent to a class like this! Missing instruction due to illness or for any reason can be detrimental to kids. How do these kids obtain the information? This is where your donation to my project helps. I record my lectures and upload them to youtube as an unlisted video so that students who miss class can go through the video notes I post and obtain the information. \r\n\r\nOriginally, when I created my request, my intention was to help these absent students but I am finding out that many students, absent or not, use these video notes to go through out class lecture again. The students have been utilizing the space in a variety of ways. I polled the class to see what ways they would like to be able to utilize the space during class time. They decided they would like it to be earned by completing assignments on time, being on task, helping each other and just a place to hang out during break time and before school. I have a class set of names and will draw names weekly for students to use the space. Another way they can use the space is during break times, before class, or during our advisory time. If they finish a project early, they can use the space by playing games with classmates or sitting and drawing. \r\nThey were so excited when they saw the space! They commented on how nice the colors looked and how comfortable the couches were. \r\nOur next steps are to just enjoy the space. The students talked about how relaxing the space is.
