What, we get to play games? At school? These not only doubled what I was able to offer the students, but vastly improved the quality of our offerings. Students immediately wanted to know when we would have our first game day. \r\n\r\nThat day came at the end of our third week of school. At this point, students are getting into a groove in their new classroom. They are getting a feel for class expectations and the personalities of each member of the class. Playing games together is a perfect way to build communication skills, problem solve as a group, and get to know one another in a more natural way. I saw students who are often too shy to speak in class participate and share with their friends. I saw students reach out in invite reluctant students to join them and be part of the group. I also saw students work together to teach each other the rules or read through the rule book and try things out. And all I had to do was sit back and enjoy the good vibes.\r\n\r\nEven though this was only our first game session, it was a rousing success. I can't wait to share new games as we go throughout the year and keep this momentum going.","fullyFundedDate":1787176591950,"projectUrl":"project/gaming-analog-style/10401017/","projectTitle":"Gaming: Analog Style","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nielsen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1585718_orig.jpg?crop=1973,1973,x0,y368&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1784757541259","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/lynette-nielsen"},{"teacherId":2931506,"projectId":6707452,"letterContent":"Students have loved working with clay and making their own usable art! We are using the nets to create multiple small courts so students can practice serving, bumping, and setting, and rallying in developmentally appropriate games. Instead of waiting in long lines, students are constantly moving and getting meaningful touches on the ball. One of my favorite moments so far was watching a group of students who were initially hesitant celebrate their first successful rally across the net!\r\n\r\nThe pop-up design made the courts feel welcoming rather than intimidating. The adjustable height has been especially helpful, allowing me to modify the game so every grade level and ability can experience success.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to build from basic skills into modified games that emphasize teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship.
