Before our new velcro smocks our students were using those that tie from the lower back and neck which was not helping them become independent nor was that a moment where a peer could try to help just yet. Our Montessori busy boards have been a great help for our fidgety students during circle time. As well very much loved by our students who love tedious work. This has been such a great help for all students fine motor skills. Our students sat screwing and unscrewing for at least 20 minutes something rarely seen in this age group they loved the challenge. This was probably one of my favorite items specifically the boys eyes lit up and they would run over to take turns to use the tools provided with the busy boards.\r\n\r\nWhen materials started coming in students were surprisingly more excited about the empty boxes we were left with, these boxes were able to be turned into so many things such as vehicles, tablets, remotes and even some into homes. This was possible thanks to our generous donors the items used were also part of the project items such as colorful tape, glitter glue, shape cutters etc. It took us some time to understand how to use our yacker tracker and we had so much fun doing so. Working in ages 4/5 year of age we want to make sure they learn while having Lots of fun and with that comes lots of noise we don't shy away from making noise but our classroom is right between two other classrooms and we want to be considerate with others learning. We made sure the noise level setting was age appropriate never demanding silence but just a friendly reminder as to when it might be getting a little too loud.\r\n\r\nWe just finished off our school year and are unsure of what is to come this new school year therefore our next step is welcoming our new lead teacher along with 20 new students. Taking one day at a time observing taking notes and better understanding what our students are interested in learning and what tools they need in order to meet their goals whole group and individually.","fullyFundedDate":1774879803192,"projectUrl":"project/hungry-caterpillars/9984937/","projectTitle":"Hungry Caterpillars","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. B","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10287752"},{"teacherId":10179061,"projectId":9971369,"letterContent":"The materials and technology from this project have already made a huge difference in our classroom. My students learn best with clear visuals, hands-on activities, and structured routines, so having access to a color printer and durable classroom materials helps support their learning every single day. They enjoy using the bright visuals, matching activities, and hands-on learning tools during lessons and daily routines. The cardstock and laminating supplies help keep materials strong and reusable, which is especially important because many students benefit from repeated practice and visual support throughout the school day. \r\n\r\nThese new resources have especially helped students who need extra support with communication, transitions, attention, and understanding expectations. The visuals help reduce frustration and build confidence by giving students clear and consistent supports they can rely on each day. For their very first project, the students decided they wanted to create something special that all sixth graders could enjoy during their promotion celebration: a large \"Congratulations\" banner.\r\n\r\nHowever, the process became much more than just making a banner. Students worked together to learn new software, discuss ideas, test materials, and solve problems as a team. Their first attempts did not go as planned because the sizing and materials were not quite right, but instead of giving up, they continued experimenting and adjusting their designs until they achieved exactly what they envisioned. Watching them communicate, compromise, and encourage one another throughout the process was incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nAs their teacher, it was exciting to see students develop confidence, creativity, and teamwork skills through this hands-on experience. When my students first saw the variety of snacks, they were immediately excited and eager to choose something familiar and preferred. For many of my students, trying new or unfamiliar foods can be overwhelming, so having options they recognize made a big difference. Snack time quickly became a calm and positive part of our day, where students felt comfortable, happy, and ready to engage.\r\nWe now use these snacks daily to support both regulation and learning. Having access to preferred snacks has helped reduce frustration and has made transitions smoother throughout the day. One meaningful moment was seeing a student who often struggles during snack time independently choose a snack, open it, and sit with peers calmly, something that was previously very challenging. These small but powerful moments show growth in independence, confidence, and social participation. When students' basic needs are met, they are more focused, engaged, and ready to learn.\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using snack time to build independence and life skills such as making choices, following routines, and cleaning up. We are also working on increasing peer interaction during snack time to strengthen social connections in a natural and supportive setting.
