My students always have what they need, at no expense to their families. The jumbo pencils and crayons are helpful in two ways. First, they are large enough that students can hold them easily and practice proper pencil grip. Larger pencils often make it more simple for little fingers to use the proper grip. Second, we have much fewer broken crayons and pencils. This eliminates problems for both student and teacher. It's been generally helpful, all around, to have these age appropriate coloring tools for my 1st graders.
