As I opened them one at a time, I took time to explain where they came from/how we had gotten them. We also talked about what each item was. We compared the lengths of the ramps in the ramps and balls kit and how they should be arranged in their storage box. We talked about what they were made of and how we could use each item safely and how to take care of them.\r\nWe did not put all of the materials out immediately. The conveyor, levers and pulleys will be added during the Simple Machines study later in the fall. I do have to say that the ramps and balls has been a major attraction in our block/construction area. Students have also learned how to incorporate the hollow core wooden blocks into ramp play making tunnels for the balls and cars to travel through.
