During our research on the science of reading, we have learned that children really do need explicit, multisensory, and systematic instruction daily in small groups. My classroom is not outfitted with a reading table for daily reading groups to practice systematic reading strategies. We have been sitting on the carpet to do our whole group reading instruction. We would love to have a table where we could have our daily small group instruction. I feel that students are most comfortable taking risks when in small groups. Therefore, I would like a table for small group instruction where the students can collaborate and learn together each day. This table can be used daily for small group instruction while we work on sorting items by sound, letter sorts, blending and segmenting words with Elkonin boxes and manipulatives. I can really use it for lots of hands on instruction.
