One of my favorite moments happened last week during a collaborative design challenge. Students used the magnetic tiles, Play-Doh, and kinetic sand to engineer model structures that could withstand \"earthquake\" shaking on our testing table.\r\n\r\nIt was amazing to watch them experiment, rebuild, and problem-solve together. Students who are usually quiet became leaders as they explained why certain shapes added stability, while others jumped right into hands-on testing and adjustments. Students are beginning to discuss, annotate, and want to keep reading The Poet X! One student, who rarely read before now, journals daily, while another recently wrote a powerful poem about her identity. These moments show the lasting impact of your generosity. The materials also democratized participation—students who had never used fabrication tools before were able to prototype, iterate, and understand the core principles of additive manufacturing in an accessible, age-appropriate format.\r\n\r\nIn addition to these classroom experiences, our school partnered with the Rochester Institute of Technology for a one-day field experience focused on advanced 3D printing at the collegiate level. Students had a chance to observe industrial-grade equipment, learned about design processes used in engineering and product development, and interact with faculty and college students who work with these technologies every day. In addition, they were able to use 3D printing technology to create a laser-precise keychain with their name. The funds donated to this project built a bigger connection beyond what happens in our STEM club.
