I teach in a 2nd grade Dual Language classroom in the Rochester City Schools. In my classroom, half of the children come from English dominant homes and the half from Spanish dominant homes. Every other day we switch the language of instruction, but we never stop learning! We combat the poverty of our surroundings by creating a rich community within our walls. We start every day with a morning meeting where we greet each other, laugh and work hard together, and learn to listen to one another. All day long that spirit pulls us together while we do the challenging work of pushing ourselves and growing from whatever academic, social or emotional level we start from.
