We are using the weighted soccer ball, portable net, and color-coded bibs to teach basic soccer skills such as kicking, aiming, and passing. One memorable moment was during a small-group activity where students practiced passing the ball to a peer and then taking turns shooting into the net. The slower pace of the ball allowed students more processing time, and the visual structure provided by the bibs helped them understand team roles, leading to increased participation and success.\r\n\r\nWhen students were first introduced to the materials, many showed excitement and curiosity. Students who are typically hesitant to engage in group activities were more willing to participate because the equipment felt manageable and predictable. It is nice to see my students smiling, waiting for their turn, and engaging in positive peer interactions. Some students independently initiate passes or celebrate a classmate's goal. We have been able to include other classes to participate in these positive activities. We will continue building on these foundational skills by increasing opportunities for teamwork, communication, and independence. Our next steps include supporting students in using verbal language or communication devices to request the ball, identify teammates, and follow simple game routines. With these new texts, we have been able to target essential literacy skills such as identifying characters and main ideas, making connections to personal experiences, and building vocabulary in a way that feels engaging and relevant. For many of my students with diverse learning needs, having high-interest and accessible books has also supported foundational skills like using picture cues to support comprehension. These books have allowed me to differentiate instruction more effectively and provide multiple entry points for students at varying levels.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading now looks more interactive and student-centered. Students participate in small group and one-on-one reading activities where they can explore books that match their interests. We incorporate visuals, repeated readings, and discussion prompts to help students engage with the text. Some students use communication devices or sentence starters to share their thoughts, while others point to pictures or answer simple comprehension questions. The increased engagement has led to longer periods of focus and more meaningful participation during literacy time.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have shown noticeable growth and enthusiasm since receiving these books. One student who previously struggled to stay engaged during reading time now eagerly selects books about animals and independently flips through the pages, pointing out familiar images. Another student has begun using new vocabulary words from the National Geographic books during class discussions. These moments are significant, as they reflect both increased confidence and a deeper connection to learning. Instead of simply reading about potential and kinetic energy, students were able to see energy transformation in action. As they pumped air into the rockets, they observed how pressure built up inside the bottle, storing potential energy. When the launcher released, that stored energy rapidly converted into kinetic energy, propelling the rocket high into the sky.\r\n\r\nThis hands-on demonstration helped students clearly understand how pressure, force, and energy transfer work together. They could connect classroom formulas to what they physically saw and heard at launch. Beyond the science, the activity created genuine excitement and curiosity. Students cheered, predicted outcomes, adjusted designs, and eagerly discussed why some rockets traveled higher or farther than others. The bottle rocket launchers made learning unforgettable, combining rigorous scientific principles with fun and engagement that motivated every student to participate.","fullyFundedDate":1763612143539,"projectUrl":"project/ready-for-lift-off-rocket-launch-pads-f/9874789/","projectTitle":"Ready for Lift-Off: Rocket Launch Pads for Our Scientists","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Vanegas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1241349_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1471042957152","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1241349"},{"teacherId":1241349,"projectId":9770223,"letterContent":"Your generous donation of magnetic molecular modeling kits transformed our chemistry classroom by making abstract concepts tangible and engaging. We use music to help with transitions, pacing, and motivation, and it's made a huge difference for my students.
