When a student can reach for a book that matches both their reading level and their interests, it removes the barrier of frustration and replaces it with the genuine joy of discovery.\r\nThese books do more than just fill a shelf; they serve as essential tools for developing foundational literacy skills. Exposure to diverse vocabulary and complex sentence structures within these stories helps students bridge the gap between basic decoding and deep comprehension. I wanted to share how your support has already made a meaningful impact on my students' learning.\r\n My second graders have been using the playdough during our science unit on plant and animal relationships, which aligns with the Amplify Science curriculum. As part of the first module, students studied the life cycle of a plant, an oak tree, and a pumpkin. Using paper plates as their \"stage,\" they modeled each step of the life cycles with playdough. This hands-on approach helped them visualize and explain concepts in a way that felt meaningful and fun.\r\n We've also used the playdough during math lessons. When practicing addition with regrouping, students created ones by rolling tiny balls of playdough and formed tens by squeezing those balls together into a strip. Manipulating the playdough helped them grasp place value more clearly, and they loved working together to build and solve equations. They will continue using the playdough as we move into three-digit addition and subtraction later this year.\r\n The moment I revealed the playdough to the class was priceless. Many students immediately noticed the fruity scents of the different colors and giggled with excitement. They kept saying how fun it was to have \"real scented playdough\" to use for learning. Their joy brought so much energy into the room, and it was all thanks to you.\r\n One particularly special moment involved a student who recently moved here from Afghanistan and is learning his letter names and sounds. During one on one work, and sometimes with the help of a kind classmate, he used the playdough to form letters and practice identifying them. This tactile, creative activity helped him stay engaged and confident as he develops foundational literacy skills.\r\n Your donation continues to support learning every day. As we move into more complex math skills, such as three-digit addition and subtraction, students will keep using the playdough as a tool for modeling, problem solving, and working together. In science, students will continue building models and representations during future Amplify units, which will deepen their understanding of how living things grow and interact.\r\n Thank you for giving my students the opportunity to learn through creativity, collaboration, and hands-on exploration.
