My first graders have been using the expo markers during our phonics lessons — students take turns coming up to our whiteboards to practice writing and blending words. Having fresh, bright markers makes such a difference; the letters show up clearly and students are so eager to be the one who gets to write. The glue has been equally valuable for our hands-on literacy stations, where students build words and sort pictures by their sounds using cut-and-paste activities.\r\nFirst graders get excited about everything, and new supplies are no exception! When I brought out the fresh expo markers, several students immediately noticed the bright colors and wanted to know if they could pick their favorite. There is something about new, well-stocked materials that makes students feel valued — like their learning space is cared for. That energy carries into the work they do.\r\nWe are continuing our phonics and word work units, and these supplies will carry us through the rest of the year. Coming up, students will use the expo markers for our word-building practice at our small whiteboard station, and the glue will support upcoming cut-and-sort activities as we work on vowel sounds and sight words. It has definitely promoted some interesting and enlightening conversations, too. The sterile and boring is gone and has been replaced by a calm forest retreat. Voices lower naturally and kids are calmer. Students say they love our new classroom, and the FEELS are REAL. \r\nAdditionally, our room is cooler in summer with no sun in our eyes and warmer in winter because of the insulation of the long curtains.
