My first graders have been using the expo markers during our phonics lessons — students take turns coming up to our whiteboards to practice writing and blending words. Having fresh, bright markers makes such a difference; the letters show up clearly and students are so eager to be the one who gets to write. The glue has been equally valuable for our hands-on literacy stations, where students build words and sort pictures by their sounds using cut-and-paste activities.\r\nFirst graders get excited about everything, and new supplies are no exception! When I brought out the fresh expo markers, several students immediately noticed the bright colors and wanted to know if they could pick their favorite. There is something about new, well-stocked materials that makes students feel valued — like their learning space is cared for. That energy carries into the work they do.\r\nWe are continuing our phonics and word work units, and these supplies will carry us through the rest of the year. Coming up, students will use the expo markers for our word-building practice at our small whiteboard station, and the glue will support upcoming cut-and-sort activities as we work on vowel sounds and sight words. Every supply that keeps our stations running means more hands-on practice — and that practice is what helps my students become confident, capable readers.","fullyFundedDate":1755745093196,"projectUrl":"project/the-essentials/9590382/","projectTitle":"The Essentials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Collier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6699394_orig.jpg?crop=827,827,x0,y146&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1670595797801","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6699394"},{"teacherId":6893554,"projectId":9821779,"letterContent":"Students are enjoying all of our new class materials! Our students use it to strengthen early literacy and math skills through interactive programs that give immediate feedback. When students practice phonics, letter sounds, sight words, or number sense, the technology adjusts to their level. It allows me to differentiate in real time — supporting students who need extra practice while also challenging those who are ready to grow. It also builds testing stamina and familiarity with digital tools they'll use throughout their academic growth.\r\n\r\nThe addition of a classroom printer has taken this learning even further. Students can now print their work, track their progress, and hold their accomplishments in their hands. Many of our students learn at different paces, and technology helps us meet them where they are. Programs provide immediate feedback, adjust the level of difficulty based on student performance, and allow teachers to track progress in real time. This helps students strengthen foundational skills while also building confidence and independence as learners.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part of the new technology for students is how interactive it is. Lessons feel more like activities or games rather than traditional worksheets, which increases motivation and focus. Students are able to see their growth, earn rewards, and take ownership of their learning. For many of them, especially those who struggle with reading or attention, this makes learning feel less intimidating and more achievable.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially connected with this technology, particularly students who previously found academic tasks frustrating. Students with learning disabilities and those who benefit from visual or auditory supports have shown increased engagement and perseverance. Nonverbal or reluctant learners are more willing to participate because the technology gives them alternative ways to demonstrate understanding. Overall, we have seen students become more confident, more willing to take academic risks, and more excited to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1755829169078,"projectUrl":"project/independent-listener/9571415/","projectTitle":"Independent Listener","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Harvest","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6216696_orig.jpg?crop=1124,1125,x0,y168&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1669652735424","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6216696"},{"teacherId":6216696,"projectId":9130372,"letterContent":"We are using the new resources daily during small-group instruction and independent learning time. Students used the technology to listen to a text while following along, then stopped to answer comprehension questions and highlight key details. A student who typically struggles to stay engaged was able to complete the entire lesson independently and proudly shared their results with the group. It was a powerful reminder of how the right tools can remove barriers to learning.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. They were eager to explore, asked thoughtful questions, and were motivated to get started right away. Several students commented that it felt \"more fun\" than regular work, and even students who are usually hesitant jumped in without prompting. The sense of ownership and curiosity was clear from the start.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our next steps involve using these resources to deepen comprehension and build foundational skills. Students are currently working on a reading project where they practice decoding, fluency, and comprehension using leveled texts supported by the technology. They will apply what they learn by responding to questions, discussing texts in small groups, and tracking their own progress.
