The board and card games have given my students a fun and meaningful way to disconnect from their phones and connect with one another. As a reward for their hard work throughout the school year, students have enjoyed playing games such as UNO, Codenames, Chess, Apples to Apples, and Exploding Kittens. When the games first arrived, students were immediately excited and eager to learn how to play. It was refreshing to see students laughing, communicating, strategizing, and working together instead of staring at screens.\r\n\r\nThese games have helped strengthen our classroom community by encouraging teamwork, problem-solving, sportsmanship, and face-to-face interaction. I was able to create opportunities for students to build relationships with classmates they may not normally interact with while celebrating their accomplishments in a positive way. Looking ahead, these games will continue to be used as incentives, community-building activities, and end-of-unit celebrations, providing future students with opportunities to unplug, connect with others, and create lasting memories together.
