Many of my students benefit from sensory supports, and the lights help reduce anxiety, improve focus, and create a space where they feel safe and ready to learn. Students are excited to come into the classroom each day because the environment feels welcoming and interactive.\r\n\r\nAnother important impact has been the ability to print worksheets and learning materials that better support my students' individual needs. Having access to paper and printing resources allows me to create differentiated activities, visual supports, and hands-on learning materials that enhance understanding and participation. My students learn best when lessons are adapted to their learning styles, and these resources help make that possible.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students is how the sensory lights transform our classroom atmosphere. They love the calming colors and the sense of comfort the lights bring during independent work, group activities, and moments when students need sensory breaks or emotional regulation.\r\n\r\nSome students who struggle with attention, anxiety, or sensory overload have especially connected with this new technology. I have noticed students becoming more focused, calmer, and more willing to participate in lessons and classroom discussions. With a fresh batch of art supplies, maker's needs like t-squares and clipboards, and colorful paper, our students look and feel like experts in the field.\r\n\r\nThe students were so excited to see the art supplies. Our classroom was full of the basics that normal students use, but when they saw the caliber of markers and paint supplies, they could not wait to get their hands on them! The clipboards also make movement possible since they can float aroung the room to different stations and activities. Anything that allows them the freedom to move their bodies is a welcome.\r\n\r\nOur next big project we will use the supplies on are their \"Destiny Object\" Art Show, coming up in a month. Inspired by their class novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, the students complete an art show based on a random object drawn. After weeks of sketching and writing and creating images of their object, they will produce a final product that will be presented to the public in an art show where the pieces of art must show who they are as a person, what they believe in, or how they view life. Having a fully stocked classroom allows learning to flow smoothly without interruptions when supplies run out.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new supplies, they were genuinely excited — especially the art materials. For many students, simply knowing that everything they need is available in the classroom helps them feel more confident and ready to learn each day.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using these supplies in upcoming writing units, literature projects, and interdisciplinary STEAM activities. These materials are currently being assembled into individual student binders by parent volunteers, and soon each student will have their own personal collection of literature to use every day in class. This project will allow us to move away from relying so heavily on screens and instead work directly with physical texts that students can annotate, revisit, and truly make their own.\r\n\r\nWhen I told my students that they would no longer need to read most of their stories on their devices, their reaction was immediate and enthusiastic. Many cheered, and several told me they were excited to \"actually hold the stories\" and not stare at a screen during reading time. For many students, especially those who struggle with focus or eye strain, this change already feels like a relief. They are eager to receive their binders and start using them.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to begin our first literature unit using these binders, focusing on close reading, annotation, discussion, and performance.
