These titles offer inspiration by permitting students to engage with the reading topic, issues they can relate and connect to, witness the trials the characters either experiencing internal or external conflict and how they perservere and overcome these obstacles to grow! They do NOT give up, and neither should they! My students need to have these examples to help them not easily give up once it gets complicated. My ELD students are unfortunately at risk students due to the low skills, motivation, and strategies to overcome challenges. My kiddos need these books and would benefit. The teacher guides will be helpful to accompany the literature with critical thinking and reading/writing strategies.
