Your support has provided the tangible tools we needed to bring our new proficiency-based learning system to life. Here is a look at how your gift is transforming our classroom.\r\n\r\nBringing Our \"Adventure\" to Life\r\nOur school theme this year is Pixar, and thanks to your donation, every student now carries their very own \"Our Adventure Book.\" These folders house our proficiency scales, which are the roadmap for our students' education.\r\n\r\nIn a proficiency-based system, it is vital for students to understand three things: where they are, where they are going, and how they will get there. These folders provide the physical space for them to track that journey. By using the \"Adventure Book\" cover sheets, we've turned the sometimes-intimidating process of grading into an exciting quest for knowledge.\r\n\r\nThe Big Reveal\r\nWhen the materials first arrived and were handed out, the reaction from the students was pure excitement. There was an immediate buzz in the room as they saw the Pixar-themed covers. One student exulted, \"We finally have a real place for our goals!\"\r\n\r\nBecause this is our first year using this grading system, there was previously some uncertainty among the kids about how to organize their progress. Seeing the uniform, high-quality folders made the new system feel \"official\" and manageable rather than overwhelming.\r\n\r\nA Meaningful Classroom Moment\r\nJust last week, I watched a student open their folder during a math unit. Instead of asking me, \"What do I do next?\" or \"Is this a good grade?\", they looked at their proficiency scale, identified the specific skill they hadn't mastered yet, and said, \"I'm at a Level 2 right now, but I'm working on adding within 100 and going to do this practice activity to get to a Level 3.\" That shift from passive learning to active ownership is exactly what these resources were intended to facilitate.\r\n\r\nLooking Ahead: Sharing the Journey\r\nThe next step for our students is one of the most important parts of our year: Student-Led Conferences. Armed with their \"Adventure Books,\" students are currently preparing to present their progress to their parents. They won't just be showing a letter grade; they will be opening their folders to show their parents exactly what skills they have mastered and what their goals are for the next term. These folders have become a bridge between school and home, allowing students to speak confidently about their own growth.\r\n\r\nThank you for being a part of our adventure and for helping our students navigate their path to success!","fullyFundedDate":1756922835042,"projectUrl":"project/adventure-awaits-my-adventure-book-fold/9617946/","projectTitle":"Adventure Awaits: My Adventure Book Folders for Student Growth","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mitarai","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5820295_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1535992747916","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-mitarai"},{"teacherId":6222508,"projectId":9682082,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to my project. The students enjoy the variety of activities they can choose from and the different rewards they can purchase at class store. It definitely gives them something to look forward to and work for. \r\n\r\nIt will be nice to see the students' reactions to the progress they made through the year when they look through their data notebooks at the end of the year. For many of them, this is their very first school experience, and having their own special space for their belongings made them feel so grown-up and responsible. It was such a sweet moment watching their faces light up as they realized, \"This is mine!\"\r\n\r\nThese cubbies have made such a big difference in our classroom routine. Before, our belongings were piled together, and things often got lost or mixed up. Now, our mornings run so much smoother because each child knows exactly where their items go. It's also helping us practice important life skills like organization, independence, and responsibility. Every day, students take ownership of their space by keeping it neat and checking for what they need.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, we have created a structured, organized environment that helps our students feel confident and ready to learn. I have reserved them only for my third and forth grade classes, as I feel these students are on their way towards budding musicianship. These students were so excited to hear they have an instrument all to themselves and gasped when I gave each of them their very own recorder! Even now, they always say \"yes!\" under their breath whenever I tell them it's time to bring out their recorders, and my younger students are quite jealous when they hear that they have to wait until third grade to try them out! The older students are looking for patterns and testing their fine motor skills, both of which are perfect for combining with the recorder. Although we have only used the recorder for a total of four lessons, I have seen my students take a greater interest in singing, and they are getting anxious to play the songs they've sung. \r\nMy district has designed its own \"recorder method\" to teach students how to play the instrument, starting with easy songs and games that allow students to have a successful introduction to the instrument. Currently, I am teaching them the song \"Hop Old Squirrel\" and combined it with learning the notes B, A, and G. The students were able to label the notes of the song, then retrieve their recorders to play the song. Many students were excited to play the song they've enjoyed learning, and I heard a lot of \"I got it!\" as I was walking through the room.\r\nNow that I've gotten my students playing three notes, I plan on solidifying their understanding of those notes by having them pick from a number of BAG songs and labeling the notes for them. I also plan on allowing the students to write their own songs using the notes that we learn. They will also get to play those songs on their recorders for each other and potentially their teachers. I hope to foster a love of instruments and performing through using these recorders, and though I've only had them for a short time, I'm so happy to have instruments that my students can enjoy. Thank you for everything you've done to help my students love music!","fullyFundedDate":1731535106624,"projectUrl":"project/recorders-make-the-world-go-round/8685112/","projectTitle":"Recorders Make the World Go Round!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hunt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8366225"},{"teacherId":9588566,"projectId":8491242,"letterContent":"My students have been delighted with our new supplies! I have loved knowing that I have the materials I need for the projects I would like to do, including following the interests of students. \r\nOur new tools and storage drawers are making it easier for students of all grade levels to explore and learn. The storage drawers for tools have been fantastic. They are such a convenient and sturdy place to keep things easily accessible for students. The Makedo cardboard tools have made cutting cardboard so much easier and safer. \r\nThe materials have been used by several grades. Kindergarten students built houses for the hexbugs. Third grade students built houses to keep the three little pigs safe from the big bad wolf (played by the fan). Fourth grade students used the Makedo tools to build ramps and sleighs. Sixth grade students used several materials including the wheels, skewers, hot glue guns, and Lego people to design, build, and test crash test vehicles.\r\nI am looking forward to seeing more projects and learning made possible by these materials! I hope building Hexbug habitats will be a highlight for the second grade. Fourth grade will be putting together Rube Goldberg machines as classes. \r\nYour donations are feeding a love of science and engineering in a whole school of children.
