For example, if they finish their assignments early, or if it is a makeup day to catch up on work, and they have already done their assignments. This allows students the opportunity to be rewarded for their perseverance, while also removing the screens from their hands. I did not want to use screen time as a reward in my class- I don't like students rushing to complete their assignments so they can get online. Therefore, having the games in class has brought back the chance for students to interact with each other and socialize in person! Students have used their journals for creative and reflective writing, as well as for brainstorming with each other. Pencils are used daily (and quickly) as students work on their writing without technology. \r\n\r\nThe sharpener works perfectly to sharpen pencils quickly to allow students to get back to work faster, and the highlighters are used to color code and revise. Providing these materials takes the strain off of students to have their own materials, and takes the financial strain away from me. From enjoying friendly games of tetherball and softball to running, kicking, and chasing a HUGE soccer ball across the field, students of all ages experienced the excitement of being active together.\r\n\r\nFor our preschoolers, the games provided an opportunity to explore new activities, develop coordination and motor skills, build confidence, and experience the joy of physical activity in a fun and welcoming environment. The oversized soccer ball was a huge hit, encouraging teamwork, movement, and plenty of laughter!\r\n\r\nFor our high school students, the experience went beyond physical activity. It provided an opportunity to demonstrate leadership, patience, kindness, and responsibility while connecting with younger members of our school community. These interactions helped foster empathy, strengthen social skills, and create meaningful relationships across age groups.\r\n\r\nBy providing equipment and activities that everyone could enjoy, Field Day created an inclusive environment where students could participate regardless of athletic ability or previous experience. Most importantly, it reminded us that physical education is about more than sports and competition. It is about building connections, creating positive memories, encouraging lifelong movement, and making everyone feel that they belong.\r\n\r\nThe biggest impact was seeing students of all ages laughing, playing, and sharing in the simple joy of being active together.
