These xylophones are an important part of the learning experience in my classroom to develop my students' music skills. Along with learning how to play melody and harmony, my students develop their skills of collaboration, teamwork, and perseverance through performance. Learning how to use these skills in such a fun and challenging way gives students a glimpse at what their future can hold - a future that could potentially include involvement in musical ensembles in their later years.\r\n\r\nWe appreciate your generosity and support of the arts in our district by making this donation. I firmly believe that music belongs in all of our schools and your choice to help fund this purchase can continue my mission to provide a robust music education to every student who attends South Grove Elementary.","fullyFundedDate":1778640105124,"projectUrl":"project/music-makers-need-melody-instruments/10175795/","projectTitle":"Music Makers Need Melody Instruments","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Etter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1749735_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1657584897490","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-etter"},{"teacherId":2418111,"projectId":9530033,"letterContent":"Thank you to all who were able and willing to donate to my project. I received a gift card for Teachers Pay Teachers. This gave me the opportunity to purchase many different materials to supplement my reading curriculum to meet the needs of all students. First, I was able to purchase coloring and knowledgable Anchor charts for my classroom. These charts support students by always having a resource available to them when they need it. This also gives me more time to work on other needs for my students. I was also able to purchase Test Prep materials to meet Indiana State Standards that our Reading Curriculum is lacking. These resources give me the materials needed to create fun and engaging lessons even when the topic may not be exciting. Lastly, I was also able to purchase writing materials. My students need a lot of support in writing and these give me the resources needed to guide students of all levels in the right direction.\r\n\r\nAll of these resources are also a nice change for students from the daily curriculum work we do. It is nice for them to have newer activities to keep them engaged in their own learning. These resources can also be used over and over again for years because they are digital. Because of your kindness, we now have a set of instruments that have truly transformed our music-making and opened new doors for creativity.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the ukuleles, my students and I have been using them to learn chords, accompany songs, and explore the joy of playing together as an ensemble. One special moment I'll never forget was the very first time they strummed as a group—when the sound filled the room, their faces lit up with surprise and pride. For many of them, this was the first time they had ever played a stringed instrument, and the excitement was contagious.\r\n\r\nThe students' initial reaction was pure joy—there were smiles, laughter, and even applause for each other as they began experimenting with the strings. Several immediately asked if they could take the ukuleles home to keep practicing, which shows just how inspiring these instruments have been.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next project is learning to play and sing simple songs as a full class. We'll be focusing on chord transitions, strumming patterns, and eventually building towards a performance where students can showcase their new skills. Your donation has given us not only instruments, but also a pathway to teamwork, creativity, and confidence.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our students and giving them this opportunity. Your generosity has made a lasting impact, and we are so excited to continue this musical journey.","fullyFundedDate":1674751389339,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-ukuleles/7127174/","projectTitle":"Classroom Ukuleles!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Money","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8923385_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732228084295","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8923385"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_96849","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":575,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":65,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":7,"gradesServed":"4 - 6","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.8,"schoolId":96849,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Grove Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"South Grove Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/indiana/beech-grove-city-school-district/south-grove-intermediate-school/96849"}
