By establishing rules for it's use, students have been introduced to strategies to leverage Gemini AI to generate project ideas, receive targeted feedback on writing projects, gain insights on visuals they create, as well as using the device to create group podcasts about the characters in Romeo and Juliet this semester.\r\nThe gift of art supplies has escalated creativity and critical thinking of my students as well. Digital platforms which they normally rely on will create slides, templates, and infographics in a matter of seconds with virtually no thinking. The art supplies allowed a level of craftsmanship for their thinking as well as facilitating more opportunities for collaboration and creativity. The presentations they did for their original artistic expressions of themes and characterization were so much more energetic and lively because they were explaining something they made through a design process rather than the click of a button.\r\nThank you so much for your investment in the critical thinking and creativity of my students this year. Students are using tools such as heat presses, vinyl cutters, printers, cameras, and design software to create real products while learning entrepreneurship, marketing, budgeting, and customer service skills. One of the most exciting examples was during freshman orientation, when students designed and created custom shirts, then sold them at the event. This gave students the opportunity to manage every step of the process, from product creation and pricing to customer interaction and sales, while applying real-world business concepts in an authentic setting.\r\n\r\nThe hands-on nature of the technology has greatly increased student engagement and confidence. Many students who are typically quieter in traditional classroom settings have become leaders during production, sales, and design activities. Some students have especially connected with the creative side of the program through photography, branding, and product development, while others have enjoyed the financial and customer service aspects. Being able to create products that people genuinely wanted to purchase has helped students see the value of their skills and sparked interest in future careers in business and entrepreneurship.","fullyFundedDate":1767508679752,"projectUrl":"project/south-saber-business-branding-lab-creat/9729225/","projectTitle":"South Saber Business Branding Lab: Creating Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ellerbe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1560702_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1615303756445","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tellerbe"},{"teacherId":9356457,"projectId":9998353,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your incredible generosity in providing our classroom with the professional barista tools and essential ingredients we needed. Seeing the students' faces light up as they unboxed high-quality equipment was a highlight of our year, but the true gift has been the sense of ownership and pride they now carry every time they step behind the counter.\r\n\r\nThe impact of this project has been profound and far-reaching. My students have moved beyond basic instruction and now independently run their own stations, demonstrating a level of mastery I am so proud to witness. Through the daily hustle of filling orders, they have cultivated vital life skills, including teamwork, efficiency, and complex problem-solving. They've also become experts in food safety and allergen awareness, ensuring that every drink served is as safe as it is delicious. This hands-on experience has taught them more about time management and customer service than any textbook ever could.\r\n\r\nPerhaps most importantly, your donation has unlocked a world of future possibilities for these students. By mastering these professional skills, they have gained a newfound sense of self-advocacy and confidence in their own abilities. We have been able to use the iPad and Apple Pencil to apply what we have learned to real world applications. We have just started learning about right triangles, the Pythagorean Theorem, and are just beginning trigonometry. Right triangles and trigonometry have numerous applications in the real world. Students have had fun using the iPad to do their calculations and visualize the applications in the real world. For example, students are able to view the problem on Khan Academy, use the scratchpad feature on Khan Academy to write their work out, and discuss their answers with classmates. You can see some samples of their work below. \r\n\r\nAnother nice feature of using the Apple Pencil is being able to change colors to show when inverse steps are used, which you can see in red above (as well as the many color options available). This is a great feature for my students that need the additional support and differentiation. It has been great to see my students get excited about the real-world applications of something as simple (but important!!) as the Pythagorean Theorem, just with the addition of the digital interface of the Apple Pencil and Apple iPad integration. Below you can see more of our work in a different application, when we covered similar shapes and dilations. The colorful shapes are helpful for students that need the additional visual representation of different shapes. Below, we have a scale factor of 2 (purple shape) and a scale factor of ½ (green shape). Students really enjoyed using the new technology instead of the usual paper-pencil!\r\n\r\nThe laptop and scanner allow students to have autonomy when using the restroom.
