Many are new to engineering and physics concepts, and they learn best through hands-on experiences rather than memorizing formulas. When students can actively test ideas and see concepts in action, their understanding and confidence grow significantly.\r\n\r\nWith these materials, students will collect real data to explore motion, forces, energy, and collisions. Instead of completing abstract worksheets, they will push carts, measure forces, analyze results, and defend their conclusions using evidence. This transforms learning into an authentic engineering experience where students think critically, solve problems, and make meaningful connections between math, science, and real-world applications.\r\n\r\nThis project will help students build confidence and develop skills they will carry into future careers. Your contribution has had a meaningful and immediate impact on our learning environment and on the students we serve.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our classroom is now equipped with calming corner materials, chair bands, and after-school snacks that directly support both students' academic success and emotional well-being. The calming corner provides students with a safe, supportive space to regulate emotions when they are feeling overwhelmed or anxious. The chair bands have been especially helpful in supporting focus and self-regulation during instruction, allowing students to remain engaged and comfortable while learning.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the snacks you provided have encouraged students to stay after school for additional academic assistance. This support has increased student participation in after-school help sessions and has made a positive difference in their motivation and readiness to learn.\r\n\r\nIncluded with this letter are photos showing how these materials are being used in our classroom. We have been able to use the iPad and Apple Pencil to apply what we have learned to real world applications. We have just started learning about right triangles, the Pythagorean Theorem, and are just beginning trigonometry. Right triangles and trigonometry have numerous applications in the real world. Students have had fun using the iPad to do their calculations and visualize the applications in the real world. For example, students are able to view the problem on Khan Academy, use the scratchpad feature on Khan Academy to write their work out, and discuss their answers with classmates. You can see some samples of their work below. \r\n\r\nAnother nice feature of using the Apple Pencil is being able to change colors to show when inverse steps are used, which you can see in red above (as well as the many color options available). This is a great feature for my students that need the additional support and differentiation. It has been great to see my students get excited about the real-world applications of something as simple (but important!!) as the Pythagorean Theorem, just with the addition of the digital interface of the Apple Pencil and Apple iPad integration. Below you can see more of our work in a different application, when we covered similar shapes and dilations. The colorful shapes are helpful for students that need the additional visual representation of different shapes. Below, we have a scale factor of 2 (purple shape) and a scale factor of ½ (green shape). Students really enjoyed using the new technology instead of the usual paper-pencil!\r\n\r\nThe laptop and scanner allow students to have autonomy when using the restroom. This contribution has made an incredible impact on both our students and our program. The color printer has become an essential tool in supporting our daily learning activities, vocational training, and communication with families, while also helping us save valuable time and resources.\r\n\r\nBefore receiving this printer, we relied on outside support from the school's graphics department to print materials for our classroom. While we are always grateful for their help, this process often took additional time and limited our ability to quickly create and adapt materials to meet our students' needs. With the addition of our own color printer, we now have the independence to print what we need, when we need it. This has not only increased our efficiency but has also empowered our students and staff to take greater ownership of their classroom projects and learning materials.\r\n\r\nThe printer has allowed us to print our students' daily warm-ups and job skills warm-ups in full color, helping make each activity more engaging and visually accessible. Many of our students benefit from visual supports, and being able to provide colorful, clear images has improved their comprehension and participation. In addition, we can now create vibrant flyers and signage for our classroom businesses, which help our students learn valuable pre-vocational and entrepreneurial skills. These materials have been essential in teaching real-world communication, marketing, and teamwork skills that prepare them for life beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nThe color printer has also been a huge asset in maintaining strong communication with families. We can now print newsletters to keep parents informed and connected with classroom updates, student achievements, and upcoming events. This helps build stronger relationships between home and school, allowing families to celebrate their child's progress and stay involved in their educational journey.","fullyFundedDate":1755748498841,"projectUrl":"project/color-our-learning-a-printer-for-creati/9616484/","projectTitle":"Color Our Learning: A Printer for Creative Classwork","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Galvez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8692737_orig.png?crop=272,272,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1699995635424","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/karina-galvez"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_134312","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":null,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":19,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":47,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":false,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":90.6,"schoolId":134312,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Career & Technical Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"South Career & Technical Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/clark-county-school-district/south-career-technical-academy/134312"}
