Your generosity funded Project 1, an important piece of a larger, four-part effort to help children and families explore literacy through meaningful, hands-on experiences.\r\n\r\nWe are currently organizing the donated supplies and preparing for our family literacy events, planned for January 2027. Seeing the materials gathered together has made our plans feel real. Each resource is part of an experience we are building carefully so students with different learning, communication, and sensory needs can participate alongside their families.\r\n\r\nOur students will have opportunities to explore letters, build words, share stories, and practice communication through play. During our family events, we plan to model simple activities families can continue at home and provide take-home materials to help that learning continue beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nThis week, we are planning student thank-you notes for the materials we have received. This will give our students a meaningful opportunity to participate in expressing appreciation through their individual ways of communicating.\r\n\r\nAlthough the full program is still ahead, your contribution has already helped us move from an idea to preparation. Each of our four projects contributes an essential piece of the bigger picture. We are using these resources every day across subjects, especially during independent work, small-group instruction, and hands-on projects.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest impacts has been the noise-reducing earmuffs, which students use during testing, writing, and focused work time. Several students who are easily distracted or sensitive to sound now feel more comfortable and confident staying engaged. The electric pencil sharpeners, pencils, glue sticks, tape, labels, and organizational trays have helped streamline transitions and reduce lost instructional time.\r\n\r\nThe air-dry clay played a key role in our science unit. Students used the clay to create models for their ecosystem dioramas, helping them represent plants, animals, and environmental features connected to our science learning. This hands-on component allowed students to apply their research in a concrete way and deepened their understanding of the ecosystem they studied. The colored tape and craft supplies supported labeling, organizing, and designing their projects, making learning both meaningful and engaging.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were genuinely excited. They immediately noticed how colorful, organized, and \"official\" everything felt. Many students asked when they could start using the clay and games, and several commented on how helpful the headphones were for staying focused. It was clear they felt valued and supported knowing these items were specifically for them.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using these materials as we move into upcoming lessons and projects. The organizational tools will support independent work and small-group rotations, while the craft supplies, games, and modeling materials will continue to support science, vocabulary development, problem-solving, and project-based learning.
