In a middle school special education math setting, distractions can quickly disrupt engagement, especially for students with mild disabilities who benefit from structure and sensory regulation. These headphones enable students to access audio supports, such as read-aloud tools, calming music, and instructional videos, without disturbing their peers. They have become essential for differentiated instruction and independent learning.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students the most is the sense of autonomy these headphones provide. One student, who often struggles with auditory processing, now confidently uses math tutorials with captions and voiceovers, something he previously avoided. Another student with anxiety finds comfort in listening to calming background music while solving problems. Overall, students are more engaged, less distracted, and take pride in using tools that support their learning styles.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is helping us build a classroom culture that values focus, equity, and student agency. As for paper - it is a staple of every teacher's classroom and will provide ease of mind every day as I know I am not running low on supplies. \r\nThe highlight of this project are two new books - All Are Welcome and Always Anjali. \r\nAs you can see in the photos, they are in the front of the classroom on the board shelf, welcoming my students. The book jacket of All Are Welcome turned out to be a poster, which was a surprise! My students are drawn to the books and ask to revisit them. Students in second grade connected with the main character in Always Anjali. We had a deep discussion of how it felt not to have your name on the generic name plates or keychains at the stores, as many students had that experience. Anjali's inspiration and strength that came from knowing the origins of her name resonated with my students and they made excellent comments about being proud of their uniqueness. The format of short stories that connect together into a seamless narraitve works very well for our club. We can assign a short story for the time frame with competing priorities of plays, History Day and Science Fair events to make sure students still have the time to complete the reading. The perspectives of characters in the book provide a great opportunity to explore and connect with different cultures and personalities. Your donations purchased social Emotional Supports that have given students relief from anxiety and stress from school. Many Students come to Music class already in crisis, or they are heading to a crisis because they were hurried off to Music and \"we will talk later\". These supports give students the opportunity to self-regulate, thus using the coping methods they have learned, along with tactile methods of settling themselves.\r\n One instance that comes to mind was when students had a difficult test. This was also the day the materials you generously donated had arrived. They enjoyed taking turns trying the items and seeing what worked best for them. When they came to Music, they were very agitated. Rather than use their coping skills, they lashed out at the teacher. When they came to my class, they talked it through, used the calming strips, the geospheres, and the finger mazes to settle themselves. When they returned to class, nearly all of them had calmed their fears and went so far as to apologize to the teacher in advance. The next time a test came up that stressed them, they remembered to use words in a calm voice, and used the calming strips during the test. It worked really well!\r\n \r\n Again, thank you for not only your financial support, but believing in me, my students, and this project.","fullyFundedDate":1728398907148,"projectUrl":"project/project-title-harmony-for-every-heart/8653071/","projectTitle":"Project Title: \"Harmony for Every Heart: Enhancing Music Education\"","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ludwig","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5306216_orig.jpg?crop=4246,4246,x0,y380&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726772935988","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-ludwig-music"},{"teacherId":9559483,"projectId":8649668,"letterContent":"I hope this message finds you well. This addition has significantly enhanced our learning environment, providing both practical and educational benefits to the students.\r\n\r\nFirstly, the laptop charging cart has brought an improved level of organization to the classroom. The charging cart has provided a safe and efficient way to store and charge our laptops. This has allowed us to reduce downtime caused by dead batteries, ensuring that students have their devices ready for use when needed.\r\n\r\nThe charging cart has also promoted student independence and responsibility. Now that students are more involved in managing their own devices, they are learning to be accountable for charging and returning their laptops in an orderly fashion. This sense of ownership has fostered a greater sense of pride in their learning tools and has empowered them to take better care of their resources.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the availability of fully charged laptops has enhanced our ability to integrate technology into our lessons. With consistent access to fully charged devices, we have been able to engage in more dynamic, interactive learning experiences. From researching topics to creating multimedia projects, technology has become an essential tool that supports our curriculum and enhances the learning experience for every student.\r\n\r\nThe laptop charging cart has not only improved the logistics of managing classroom technology but has also created a more seamless and productive learning environment.
