Our classroom now has a dedicated \"Sensory Haven\" where students can transition from high-energy movement to calm, focused learning. We use the indoor trampoline and scooters during scheduled sensory breaks to help students \"get their wiggles out\" and provide the heavy work and vestibular input they crave. Once regulated, they move to the new, soft rug for small-group instruction and social-emotional cooling-down periods.\r\n\r\nThe first time our students saw the \"Haven,\" there was a collective sense of calm. One student with high-functioning Autism, who often struggles with floor seating, immediately gravitated toward the soft texture of the rug, using it as a \"safe base\" to participate in a group story. The scooters were an instant hit, turning \"indoor recess\" into a purposeful motor-planning activity rather than a period of restlessness.\r\nWe are now implementing \"Movement-to-Task\" transitions. Students use the trampoline for a two-minute \"power break\" before returning to the rug for speech and language goals. This structure ensures that their sensory needs are met before we ask them to focus on complex academic tasks, significantly reducing elopement and frustration.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of our hearts, thank you for investing in our Sensory Haven.\r\n\r\nIn a Special Education classroom, the environment is the \"third teacher.\" By providing a high-quality rug, a trampoline, and scooters, you haven't just bought \"furniture\"—you've provided the essential tools my students need to regulate their bodies and minds.\r\n\r\nBecause of your kindness, my students now have a soft place to land and a safe way to move. We use the pumps to customize ball firmness—softer for students with tactile sensitivities and firmer for those building grip strength. In one specific session, we used the hoops as \"sensory stations\" where students practiced rhythmic rolling to provide deep-pressure input, helping them regulate their nervous systems for the lessons that followed.\r\n\r\nThe students were thrilled! One student, who typically struggles with motor planning, was able to successfully participate in a tossing drill because the ball was perfectly inflated for his grip. Their faces lit up as they realized they could master movements that previously felt frustrating.\r\n\r\nWe are now moving into Multi-Step Motor Circuits. Students will follow a sequence of hopping through hoops, selecting a specific ball, and hitting a target. This bridges the gap between physical coordination and cognitive \"following directions\" goals, ensuring they stay active, safe, and ready to learn. One of my students has never been to the beach and didn't know what sand feels like in his hands. He wasn't sure what to think about the play sand that I placed in our sensory bin. It took him a few times of walking over before he finally engaged with the materials. When he finally got used to the texture, he spent quite a bit of time just letting it run through his hands before he finally started placing it in the little colored houses that I added to it. This was his first step in understanding what it means to build something. \r\n\r\nAnother favorite donation was the magnetic blocks. My students live with disabilities and delays, so several of them still have trouble building towers with blocks. The magnetic blocks gave them the reinforcement to keep building. They also promoted engaging multiple students in play together. It was a joy to watch them build separately and then work together.\r\n\r\nFinally, the Three Little Pigs felt board characters were a really big hit. My students really enjoyed helping me tell the story during our literacy time and even requested the items during free play to do it on their own.
